2023 Metaphysical Theme: Peace

"For storm or shine, pure peace is thine. . . "  ("Satisfied" by Mary Baker Eddy)

"Pure peace. . . storm or shine"

Each summer, our camp community unites on an inspirational theme. The metaphysical theme for the CedarS 2023 season is “pure peace … storm or shine.” This phrase is drawn from Mary Baker Eddy’s hymn, “Satisfied:”

"It matters not what be thy lot,

So Love doth guide;

For storm or shine, pure peace is thine,

Whate'er betide."  (Hymn. 513:1)

We can each feel satisfaction and pure peace, not because things are going “our way,” but from a discovery that divine Love is in charge and is correcting and governing each situation…even the challenging ones. Our pure peace is a gift from Love that we can feel even when life seems stormy.

Christ Jesus showed us how to maintain pure peace in a storm when he calmed the rough sea with the command, “Peace, be still.” (See Mark 4:39). He also walked on top of the water, untouched by the wind and waves, showing us that we too can walk on top of stormy situations with calm dominion and pure peace as we maintain a sense that divine Love is present and is in charge.

This summer, counselors and campers can dig deep into Jesus’ beatitude, “Blessed are the peacemakers,” witnessing how Christ—the influence of Truth—brings peace and resolves conflict in relationships and within ourselves.

We expect the concept of “pure peace … storm or shine” to bless camp cabins, campers, staff, families, and our worldwide community.

“And [Jesus] arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm."

Mark 4:39

“Be still, and know that I am God..."

Psalms 46:10

“Who that has felt the loss of human peace has not gained stronger desires for spiritual joy?"

Science and Health 265: 23-24

“In perfect peace, with tumult stilled,
Enhavened where no storms arise,
There man can work what God hath willed;
The joy of perfect work his prize.

Christian Science Hymnal 93:4

“For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace."

I Corinthians 14:33

“Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you."

II Corinthians 13:11

"Love makes all burdens light, it giveth a peace that passeth understanding, and with 'signs following.'"

Miscellaneous Writings 133: 29-31

“I love Thy way of freedom, Lord,
To serve Thee is my choice,
In Thy clear light of Truth I rise
And, listening for Thy voice,
I hear Thy promise old and new,
That bids all fear to cease:
My presence still shall go with thee
And I will give thee peace.

Christian Science Hymnal 136:1

"We regard each individual at camp as a child of God, who reflects alertness, joy, peace, ability, love."

Questions to Ponder:

What does it mean in our own lives that there is only one Mind? Or that good itself is indivisible? That we don’t have to compete with each other for a limited pot of good? That we can see the fullness of God’s goodness expressed equally – though uniquely – in ourselves and in others?

“We are not divided, all one body we”

(Hymn 264 and I Corinthians 12)

This theme will give us a great launching point for experiencing a greater sense of unity and harmony with our Creator, with our true self, within cabins, and with all of God's creation.
