Travel Guidelines for Summer 2022

Arrivals and Departures:  This year, we are re-opening the CedarS Express transportation service! Parents may (1) drive their child(ren) to camp; (2) utilize the CedarS Express St. Louis airport service from St. Louis; or (3) send their child(ren) on the CedarS Express bus from the Principia St. Louis campus to CedarS.  It is also possible to utilize CedarS Express for one way only.

How does CedarS Express work?  Campers fly into the St. Louis airport (STL) on the Saturday before the session begins. They’re met at their gate by CedarS Express parents and staff, shuttled to Principia School, provided with meals, and chaperoned overnight at Principia School.  On Sunday morning, they'll eat breakfast, have Sunday School, and then take a 3-hour supervised bus ride to CedarS.  At the end of the session, CedarS Express staff help campers check in at the St. Louis airport, accompany them to their gate, and stay until their flight departs.

Opening Sunday Schedule:

  • 9:00am Sunday School
  • 12:30pm Lunch
  • 1:30pm Unpack and Settle into Cabins
  • 3:30pm Afternoon Assigned Activities
  • 6:15pm Dinner and Introductions
  • 7:00pm Hymn Sing

Request for Parent/Adult Availability if Needed: Throughout the session, each camper will need to have a parent or designed caregiver ready and available to pick up their camper within 24-48 hours, if there is a need.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THOSE DRIVING:

Drive-in Arrivals to Camp:

  • Our check-in window at camp will be 8:00am-3:00pm on opening Sunday.
  • Parents of enrolled campers will be emailed a request to register their arrival and departure times, including any times outside of the official check-in window.
  • Please take home any phones, computers, eReaders, video games, etc. Our desire is to have campers immersed in the camp experience and making new friends without the distraction of electronic devices.  Any devices left with the campers will be collected and stored under lock in the office.  If you need to reach your camper, you can always call the office.

Drive-in Departures from Camp:

  • Pick-up times are between 8:30am-noon on closing Saturday. This is a firm pick-up window.
  • For campers attending for only one week, pick-up will be on the middle Saturday of the session between 8:30am-noon

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THOSE FLYING (see CedarS Express webpage for complete info):

Incoming Flights:

  • We are utilizing the St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) only this year for CedarS Express.
  • Book flights to arrive from noon-6:00pm on the Saturday before camp starts
  • If you have any difficulty arranging flights within this window, please call the camp office at 636-394-6162.

Departing Flights:

  • Book departing flights out of the St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL)
  • Departure times should be on Saturday between 2:00-6:00pm. We are not able to accommodate flights before 2:00pm due to the time it takes to drive from camp to the St. Louis airport.
  • For campers attending for only one week, departure will be on the middle Saturday of the session.

CedarS Express Enrollment:

  • Enroll online for CedarS Express.  Enter the travel/flight information into your CedarS camper registration.
  • Very Important: email a copy of your itinerary to office@cedarscamps.org
  • Timeline: Register for CedarS Express at least 14 days prior to your arrival. This allows CedarS enough time to mail you important information and line up staff to greet you at the airport.

Packing for CedarS Express:

  • What to Wear: Campers should travel in a CedarS shirt so they are easily recognizable to our staff at the airport. We also recommend having a sweatshirt or jacket available, as airports can sometimes be chilly with heavy A/C.
  • Separate Overnight Bag: Please pack a small bag that is separate from your main suitcase with these items: 1) Modest travel cash; 2) Pajamas, a change of clothes for Sunday, and toiletries; 3) Pillow and sleeping bag or sheets.
  • Cash for Travel: Campers should bring money in case there is a need for additional meals during travel.

Car Rentals:

Both the Springfield-Branson National Airport (SGF) and St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) have rental car options if you chose to fly with your children and then rent a car to bring them to camp.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THOSE TAKING THE C/E BUS (see CedarS Express webpage for complete info):

A Great Way to Get to Camp: If no airport pick-up is needed, campers are still welcome to utilize CedarS Express for the bus ride only.  Many families from the St. Louis area choose this option for the ride to and/or from camp.  The three-hour ride on a plush, air-conditioned bus will seem to fly by with the beautiful scenery, as Cedars' staff encourage new and old friends to get to know each other.

Taking the Bus to Camp:  Arrive at the Principia St. Louis campus on the opening Sunday of the session by 7:30am.  The chartered bus departs campus on Sunday at 8:00am promptly.

Returning from Camp by Bus:  The bus arrives back to the Principia School campus on the closing Saturday of the session at 11:30am. Please be there promptly to pick up your camper.
