The GOLDEN TEXT and RESPONSIVE READING in this week’s Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lesson both feature “faith (as) … the EVIDENCE of things not seen.” Kerry Jenkins’ Met includes references below to several examples cited in Hebrews and ends with the remarkable, quick healing of life-threatening injuries to her husband who kept his faith despite appearances…
[Kerry writes:] “Our Responsive Reading (Heb. 11:3, 8-11,24-26, 32, 33; 1John 5:4) might be read this way at the beginning: “Through faith (through the substance or assurance of things hoped for, the evidence of the unseen) we understand that the worlds were framed by God, so that the things which are seen (which seem solid to our material senses) were not made of things which do appear” (which become clear and solid evidence to spiritual sense). It then goes on to mention Abraham, who is featured in our Bible Lesson, and Moses, as well as some others who represent Biblical characters of great faith. All were people who ultimately forsook the pursuit of material success, comfort, or status, for the pursuit of spiritual understanding and obedience to divine direction. All who are mentioned saw something beyond what was apparent to the senses and radically followed the guidance of this unseen force. We too can find this confidence and peace through discovering and following the unseen, but substantial, reliable, harmonious force for healing and for good that is God.

THE 1ST HEALING RECORDED IN THE BIBLE WAS WHEN ABRAHAM REACHED OUT IN PRAYER FOR ABIMELECH. IN SO DOING, ABRAHAM’S OWN PROBLEM WAS SOLVED!

[Recently transcribed from Cobbey Crisler’s talk notes:]
“Chapter 20, verse 17 of Genesis puts the first specific healing on record. We’re dealing with whom here? (Voice: “Abraham.”) Abraham. Good place to start. Abraham in this verse does what? He prays. Abraham praying unto God, there is the means were given here in the Bible, the outlet of prayer as if prayer were something that when it was entered into would provide certain results. That’s the strong implication, or else why would Abraham be praying? There is some expectation of results. Therefore, prayer is not something that is regarded as idle theory in a Scriptural context, but something that promises, hopes for, looks for, desires, expects results.
What is Abraham’s problem at the moment? We are almost discussing this in mathematical terms. Prayer is something that expects results, we’ve said. I have asked, “What is Abraham’s problem?” as if prayer was an application of the solution, again a mathematical term….
Abraham does have a problem at the time he is praying to God. What is the problem? The women are barren—but he’s had a problem long before that. His own wife had been unable to bear a child. Biology could provide all sorts of reasons for that. Especially now that Sarah is in her 90s according to the chronology recorded in the story. Is there even any hope or possibility to look toward breaking a biological barrier this immense?
How much has Abraham wanted a son and heir? Where did he get the idea that he would have one by Sarah? It had been a promise. This is a real test then, isn’t it? Are God’s promises fulfilled? Or, are God’s promises more or less like many of the human promises you when I get from the government, from our families, from whatever, that may or may not come to pass? Is Abraham actually praying here for the solution to his problem? He’s really praying for others here. And it says, “God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maid servants.”
Do you know that together right at this moment on that verse we’re looking at one of the most immense breakthroughs for humanity, far eclipsing what Sir Isaac Newton discovered when an apple conked him on the head? Is this the possibility of every man becoming his own physician? With direct access to God? And also permitting others to exercise the power of prayer for our own behalf?
“Abraham prays unto God and God heals Abimelech and his wife“. There is not too much detail given us there. “And they have children.” What should we expect would happen next? If he could solve the problem for others, wasn’t it already solved for himself? Isn’t it interesting that the first healing recorded in the Bible as one who healed others? That the very motive was to reach out and help others? In that very reaching, his own problem was solved. Because in Verse 1 of the next chapter, Chapter 21, it says, “And the Lord visited Sarah as he had said.” (citation B12)
What were we waiting for? Were we waiting for God to get around to it? That’s often the way man views an unsolved problem, waiting for God to get around to it. Is that the way we have this text expressing the story as we read it? They’re waiting for him, for whom? Abraham to see that it was possible to do something about his problem. But God had given man ability to solve problems and not to be overcome by problems.
Abraham does have a child in Verse 5. Look at the biology that is set aside. “Abraham was one hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him.”

Cobbey Crisler insight on citation B15/ Luke 13:11-17:
[Cobbey:] “A woman with spinal difficulty is in a synagogue. Notice that Luke doesn’t say she has an infirmity. Luke, who is reputed to have been a physician, doesn’t even diagnose it as an infirmity but as a ‘spirit of infirmity,’ a sense of infirmity, a concept, a spirit, a thought. ‘She was bowed together. She couldn’t lift up herself.’
Verse 12. Jesus comes and announces to womanhood something that could be applicable in many ways, not just this one time. ‘Woman, you are free from thine infirmity.’ Verse 13. ‘She’s made straight and glorifies God.’
Verse 14. Incredible, ‘the ruler of the synagogue’ in which this grand healing and correction in thought occurred ‘answered with indignation’.
Jesus’ explanation about the cause of disease is Verse 16. No longer should there be any room in Christian thought that disease stems from God or is God’s will when Jesus attributes it directly to anything that would oppose God. Only what would oppose God could impose something on man that God Himself never created in His whole man. Is this a new theology? Satan and disease linked, and not God as the cause of loss, or pain, or sickness?
Because if it is, Jesus defines Satan as a liar in John (8:44). Satan has bound this woman with an infirmity that has her bent over, and has accomplished this for 18 years (Luke 13:16). And Satan is ‘a liar and the father of it.’ Satan’s works must be lies as well. If they are, they can be corrected mentally, by a full recognition of what is true. Notice that Satan does the binding. Jesus said (John 8:32), ‘Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.’
It’s a contest between the truth and the lie about God and His theology, about man, about woman, about children and about disease. If Satan is a liar, he will never change his character. Our idea of God may have gone haywire, but God has never moved.”

Like Jesus, we can behold in ourselves and in all mankind “…the perfect man who appeared to him where sinning, mortal man appears to mortals…” (SH 476:32)
What a joy to know that Spirit is forming anew your perfect, divine identity as a “perfect for all to see” “expression of “God’s being”— of “INFINITY, FREEDOM, HARMONY, BOUNDLESS BLISS.” (Hymn 565, SH 481)
These words are carved into 5-ft. long signs at CedarS Cable Ski launch as you can see pictured below as a DOWNLOAD. “If they will not believe … the first sign (INFINITY) …, they will believe the voice of the latter sign (BOUNDLESS BLISS) Exodus 4:8/cit. As God’s Genesis-1, exact “image and likeness,” you have been irrevocably given “dominion over every creeping thing” that would attempt to creep into your thought and action. Nothing can separate you from your joyous right of being “perfect for all to see!” (Hymn 565)
Let every aspect of your being sing with that Hymn of being “carefree and strong… (as) His song…” — the very expression of “infinity, freedom, harmony and boundless bliss.” (SH 481) The images posted below show these words of “who we are” carved in 10” high letters in four 5-foot long signs at CedarS Cable Ski launching platform… What a picture of peace and of health we have to share with all as the very “image of His love” fully radiating the harmony and dominion of God’s law that “There is no involuntary action.” (SH 187:22) and that effective prayer possesses “no opposing element…” (My. 293:22)
One-liner, word equations in Science & Health are “textbook” illustrations of the “Transitive Property of Equality” (www.mathwords.com) (SH pages 470:23 and 481:3)

The reign of “infinity, freedom, harmony, and boundless bliss” rules out of you all their opposites of limitation; restraint, restriction, slavery; Inharmony, Strife, disagreement, discord, fighting; depression, sadness, sorrow, unhappiness, grief, upset…
“KNOW the TRUTH” to FREE the BEST YOU from being FOOLED & KILLED (slow or fast) by LIES!
Cobbey Crisler on John 8:32 (citation B18)
[Cobbey:] “John 8:32. Here is the recipe for freedom, “It’s the truth itself that makes you free.”
It is the fact that makes you free. In John 8:44, the devil is defined as a liar and also a murderer from the beginning. If you analyze that again, the devil has one of two purposes when it enters into the thoughts and lives of man. It is either to deceive or to murder or kill us or others. That’s the motive prompting the thought, critical or otherwise. Remember, judging righteous judgment eliminates most criticisms, and not judging according to appearance. It [the lying “fake news” that proclaims the reality and power of matter] either murders or kills our neighbor or ourselves, OR its purpose is to deceive—one or the other.”

[Warren’s P.S.] Here are Greek word meanings that elevate what Jesus means by “Know the truth:
“Then Jesus said to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31, 32 (citation B18)
Know in Greek is ginosko and means:
- to distinguish what is real from what is not
- to perceive, understand, discern, distinguish
- to perceive with the mind
- to have a clear perception of truth
truth in Greek is aletheia and means:
- what is real and factual and actual, not counterfeit
- no error, no lie, no falsity, no variance
So, to “KNOW THE TRUTH” means knowing, or being conscious of, what is already true!

After a few moments of deep thought she answered:
“Treatment is the absolute acknowledgment of the ever presence of infinite perfection!”
