Climate-Controlled Cabins!
You asked (and asked and asked)
And we heard you!
BEGINNING IN THE SUMMER OF 2023 ALL CAMPERS, CREW MEMBERS & STAFF WILL SLEEP IN CLIMATE-CONTROLLEd, solar-powered CABINS!
The CedarS year-round staff and local construction crews have been working at an accelerated pace to enclose existing cabins to be climate-controlled, as needed, starting this summer. The old cedar shake flaps are even being repurposed as siding for the boys' camp cabins.
Each bunk will have two screened windows to provide great views and lighting - as well as cross-ventilation on pleasant evenings and better acccess to the nightly performance of the CedarS Cricket Orchestra. On days when temperatures rise, mini-split air conditioners will kick in to cool campers and staff. For youth camp sessions, we'll let the staff know each evening at bedtime if it's an open-air or A/C type of night.
During fall and spring shoulder season programs, we'll be able to offer heat when needed, allowing more people to enjoy CedarS! These newly renovated cabins will also keep out dust, pollen, and critters, making them significantly easier for our small but mighty housekeeping department to maintain.
Another great blessing in the project is that rooftop solar panels will offset the energy used, so that these changes will be friendly to CedarS energy budget and the environment.
Campers will continue to spend the majority of their time outdoors, and our enhanced nature curriculum will connect them with CedarS' lakes, creeks, cave and wooded trail ecosystems. Campers eager to focus on outdoor skills and adventures can enjoy CedarS outdoor specialty programs, Outdoor Exploration Camp (for rising 6th-9th grades) and Wilderness Exploration Weeks (rising 8th-11th grades).
During our Memorial Day Weekend and Family Camp programs, there will still be two "retro" screened cabins available by special request.
We're so grateful for all the donors, construction workers, and volunteers who made this landmark project possible. God is good!
