Ken Cooper’s “POETIC PRELUDE” –
to AMAZING HEALINGS, YOURS included
based on the Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lesson on
“God the Only Cause and Creator” for December 5, 2021
- The YouTube poem/video, “Jairus’ Daughter” a ruler of the synagogue was desperate for Jesus to help his dying daughter, for there was something deadly he could not control, a virus perhaps?
- In the YouTube poem/video, In “Reach Out” (read by Sue), we have a woman bound by a difficult problem for twelve years successfully reaching out to Jesus…
[Ken writes:] “The Golden Text is a short and complete statement (announcement) that “The Lord has made everything for His own purpose and delight:” (various translations). “Everything” is confirmation of “the only cause and creator”, nothing else has been created, nothing else therefore exists. What is created is for the purpose of expressing what God is. We have the right to declare that Life, Truth, Love, Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, are the infinite qualities that we express now, and always have, in the infinity of now, – we can take each in turn and know that we are necessarily an integral part of the qualities of God, and in their totality we have the completeness and perfection of what we are. Because we are made by God, we are witness to all his qualities, and no other witness is possible. “ye are even my witnesses”.(Bible citation #3) declares this marvellous truth. Without our perfect witness there would be nothing proving God’s existence. All-in-all includes man. The nothingness of anything else is the utter denunciation of matter.
“Mary Baker Eddy refers to “the three great verities of Spirit, omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience, -Spirit possessing all power, filling all space, constituting all Science..” (SH citation #11) This also applies to each of the other synonyms, and gives to us the assurance that “we live and move and have our being” in God. We can be nowhere else, because there is nowhere else. Likewise, as “Man is neither self-made nor made by mortals. God created man.” (SH citation #13) man has no power to create or experience sin, disease or death, – man can only reflect what God is, he has no power of his own, and cannot create what never existed.
“Jesus was the embodiment of spiritual man. He saw so clearly that “I and my Father are one” included us all, and this so beautifully summarizes the subject “God the Only Cause and Creator”. They mean the same. What Jesus saw was what God created, and therefore nothing else distracted him from this Truth of being.
“Section 4 has two of his healings that run together. In the poem “Jairus’ Daughter” a ruler of the synagogue was desperate to help his dying daughter, for there was something deadly he could not control, a virus perhaps?? Jesus, a unique expression of Life, Truth, Love, Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, naturally responded with each of those qualities, as the Christ does in every situation. Jesus went with Jairus to his home, but Jairus was still anxious, for his child was dying, – would Jesus get there in time? Jesus did not have this problem! As the last section (#5) indicates, time is no more. The removal of time from our fears is a great step forward, a lifting of the material picture to the present NOW of all that God is. But did Jairus become even more anxious when Jesus was suddenly halted in his progress to his home? Impatience and fear are both a false belief in time, a belief that God is not “I AM”.
“Somebody else also needed help. Who was the more important? Jairus’ dying daughter or some other person? He had not yet leant that Love cares for each of us right now. Time is irrelevant. It needs no time to act, for what is needed is already done. In “Reach Out” (read by Sue), we have the Bible story of a woman bound by a difficult problem for twelve years, who had tried all the resources of matter to heal her illness. The number twelve is symbolic in the Bible, and stands for God’s power and authority, perfect government. The number itself is timeless, – but what is it attached to? Her years of suffering were overcome by Jesus’ constant awareness of God as the only Cause and Creator, – perfect government. When she reached out, her touch of the hem of his robe was her touching metaphysically his understanding of total perfection. One touch, as a grain of mustard seed, opens up the full power and presence of God. She was healed. And her final message resonates with us all, that we need to do something to prove our faith, as did she: “We all can banish every doubt, By simply this: just reaching out.”
“The delay in getting to Jairus’ daughter resulted in a message being received from his household that his daughter had died, and there was no point in troubling Jesus anymore. But watching the aforesaid healing take place was transformative. The woman’s twelve years of pain now healed resonated with him, being the same time as his dear daughter’s life span. Jesus’ loving words to him were said with great authority “Be not afraid, only believe.” Imagine though the challenge he yet faced, as he neared and got home, – hearing the sound of mourning, the scoffing of the mourners at Jesus’ words that she was only sleeping (see Matthew 9:18-26) . Jesus removed the false thinking, and only God-thinking remained. The result was inevitable. The girl was brought back to the life she had never left.
“We’re both just astonished, for our daughter’s made whole!
Fear proved as just empty! Life is God’s Love and Soul!
Yes, we’d all been asleep! I see now there’s no death, –
In God the Almighty is all being and breath.”
“God, Love, is the Only Cause and Creator. This immediately casts out all fear, and fits in so well with last week’s celebration of Thanksgiving. Love beholds what Love is, and it could not be Love if that creation was not perfect. Life beholds the creation of Life, eternal, forever fresh. Every synonym is self-expressed as perfect man. God beholds man, and no wonder (S)He is pleased!”
