Mortals and Immortals
for May 17, 2020

Here's a short "Video Prac Talk" by Craig Ghislin, CS, this week's Bible Lesson Met contributor. It illustrates your forever perfect incorruptibility and protection to be just as perfect as when you were divinely "minted"– as an immortal! CedarS Bible Lesson “Mets”, “Video Prac Talks” and the abbreviated Bible Lesson “GEMs” (that follow) are all designed to support inspiring applications of Bible truths and examples found in weekly Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lessons. Timely, inspiring "Video Prac Talks" from other CedarS Met contributors/practitioners also come up at this link – all “for the glory of God alone” (J. S. Bach)]

GEM#1—Get out of a limited, mortal shell! Cobbey Crisler on I Cor. 15:50, 53 (verses following the Golden Text & Responsive Reading)
A chicken takes 10,000 pecks to get out of its shell of limitation. Bible pioneers like Paul worked hard to get out of their limited, mortal shells and they communicated this to us… (Click on any GEM # to see this week's full, uncut GEMs)

GEM#2: Stop being “a tenant in a tomb by being at home in the body!” Be at home in the ‘new man’ to “make all things new!” Cobbey on II Cor. 5:1-6, 16-17 (B3)
…We look out of heavenly consciousness—every window has a heavenly view. We worship where we live—Our bodies are our ultimate idols, if we are living there… "whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord.” This is one of the most radical statements in the whole Bible that is virtually skated over.

It is foolhardy to adapt ourselves to live in corporeality. You are a tenant in a tomb if at home in the body… Jesus said “Take no thought for your body.” … As Verse 17 (B3) says, “Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.*” (Click on any GEM # to see this week's full, uncut GEMs)

GEM #3: Are you up for digging (in Psalm 25:5 (B4)) some ideas to help you get THROUGH a long, waiting period of a seeming exile in a lockdown or stagnation stage? (I capitalize THROUGH, because our Shepherd, divine Love, means for us to keep moving and serving, RIGHT ON THROUGH THE DARK VALLEY, never to wallow (and “stall-oh!”) in it… (Click on any GEM # to see this week's uncut GEMs)

GEM#4: Drop conformity with the world and its pleasures! Be renewed and completely changed for the better by the Mind of Christ! Be the best version of the you that God made by using Paul’s tips in Romans 12:2 (B7): “. . . be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing “Romans 12 is Christian Science.” (MBE Accession #B00017.C) (Click on any GEM # to see this week's full, uncut GEMs.)

GEM#5: Grow Priceless “*Pearls*” from Grit! Turn "Trash" into Treasures of Truth and Love" such as "…enlarged individuality, a wider sphere of thought and action, a more expansive love, a higher and more permanent peace." CedarS 2020 Theme: from of Science and Health, page 265:3 (S11). (Click on any GEM # to see this week's uncut GEMs)

GEM#6: Heal "missing the mark" with lustful longings. "Terminate that link to the flesh." Cobbey on John 8:1-7 (B10) "…Jesus kept the mob (that would have stoned the adulterous woman) from being an unthinking gang… because they’re saying, "What's he doing? What’s he doing?' … You can't have a mob scene when conscience is at work individually… after they disperse Jesus says, "go, and sin no more. " Terminate that link to the flesh… (Click any GEM to see this week's uncut GEMs)

GEM#7: Hear from an adulterer, redeemed by Jesus’ directive to “Go and Sin No More!” (John 8:1-11, B9) The monologue “Go and Sin No More” Ken Cooper is read by Sue (Cooper) and witnesses the power of Love in freeing all from sin. GEM#8: Make your own the theological breakthough Jesus revealed to Nicodemus, and hereafter treat yourself and others as “born from above.” Cut the animal connection!
Cobbey Crisler on John 3:1-13 (B10).

“…Nicodemus … comes to Jesus by night… Jesus makes this comment, unless a man be born "from above… he cannot see the kingdom, or dominion, of God." This is a theological breakthrough that’s incalculable. You can’t see the kingdom, which, by the way, he told us was not only within, but here, right here. It wasn't a future far-off thing. "But to see it one must be born from above.” This is a definition of nativity which sounds totally impractical for us as human beings, and yet it's apparently something that Jesus based his whole theology upon. And he got the results from the concept that man is born from above… But to be God's son means you've got to cut the animal connection, those links or roots in "blood, will of the flesh, and will of man.” Sever those links."That which is born of the flesh is flesh.” It's never going to go anywhere else. That's pretty clear cut.

"No man hath ascended up to heaven." Isn't that what practically every religion puts in the heart of its communicants? Doesn't everybody want to get to a destination labeled heaven? "Ascended up to heaven," but no one gets there, except "he that came down from heaven... Apparently this critical awareness of man's nativity as God's child free from "blood, will of flesh, lust of the will of man," is not just a nice theory. Jesus is introducing it as the prerequisite for comprehending the kingdom of God and seeing it here and now. The son of Man sees it humanly, … Is it possible for humanhood to experience the kind of harmony on earth as it is in heaven? There is the major challenge… That claim, then, of heavenly nativity. It has to have something that is of major importance, John including it, and giving it so much space.”

GEM#9: “Correct material belief by spiritual understanding and ‘Spirit will form you anew.’”– to be “Perfect for all to see!" (S23, 425:25 and CS Hymn 565 in bold italics)
Note the Scriptural call to see or "Mark the perfect man" is voiced in Psalm 37:37 (B13) as well as citation B7 (as noted in GEM#4 on Romans 12:2). Plus, the word perfect is also used at least six times in Science and Health citations S18, S28, S29 & S32)

Like Jesus, behold in yourself and in all mankind "…the perfect man who appeared to him where sinning, mortal man appears to mortals…” (SH 476:32)

GEM#10: Jesus raises a widow's dead son in front of all of Nain. Be receptive to God's unforgettable, life-saving & transforming power in all! Pray for resurrection of all kinds!
Cobbey Crisler on Luke 7:11-16 (B12) – Nain widow’s dead son raised

"… in every case of raising the dead, from the Old Testament all the way through the New Testament, the human mind was startled by seeing what it accepted as the impossible, occur. This is what is in common about Zeraphath. Shunam, Nain, Capernaum. Bethany, Jerusalem, Lydda, and Troas. They didn't forget where it happened. The details of the healing are particularly sharp…. There was a lonely widow at the head of this procession. Jesus, detecting thought again, saw her entire situation at one glance. He came to her and said, "Weep not" (Verse 13). He dealt with the heavy weight of grief on thought, touched the coffin (Verse 14), strictly forbidden under Jewish law, and then said, "Young man.” … Notice the radical nature of what Jesus said. The only one supposedly there who could not hear was the one Jesus addressed. He must have expected that man's faculty of hearing to be normal. "Young man, I say unto thee, Arise." He doesn't help him either… Dominion over death is part of that unqualified dominion God gave to man. As a matter of fact, dominion, as a word, as a concept, simply can't be qualified. If it is, you no longer have dominion. (Verse 15,) "He that was dead sat up, and began to speak. He delivered him to his mother. "
