Pycl #1: It might be fun to think about how God/Soul is like the light in our thought that gives us joy, hope, wisdom, creativity, and so on. Bring in a flashlight or two for them to hold and ask where the light in the flashlight comes from…some will say "batteries", others, maybe "light bulb"…From there you can ask how long does the light last? You can even bring in some flashlights that are in various stages of dimness and brightness to illustrate this idea. How long does the "light" from God last? I know the answer will be immediate, but you can think together about why it would last, versus why batteries or bulbs wear out. When our joy is based on Soul and the things of Soul, it has an infinite source. This source never gives us the same answers to how we can find joy; it has an infinite well from which to share good. These answers, healing ideas, can always meet whatever specific need we find ourselves trying to solve. This idea relates to both this week's lesson and to the Thanksgiving lesson really. This week's lesson has much in it about light. Start with the Golden Text, but there are other references such as citation B18, and most of Section 4. Then in the Thanksgiving lesson you can think about the abundance of good that God pours on us. The light, in this case, is like the recognition of the kingdom within that supplies us with infinite "light qualities".

Pycl #2: I imagine many of your pupils will be attending a Thanksgiving service at church. Have you considered talking to them about how the service works? Look at Mrs. Eddy's provision in the Manual for how that service works. What is different in that service from a Sunday or Wednesday service? Did they notice that the testimony period has something different about who shares healings/gratitude? Why would that be? Can they think about what they are grateful for and try sharing at the Thanksgiving meeting? What should their sharing contain? Maybe have them try sharing something in Sunday School. Does your class have anything as a class that they are grateful for or might want to share at Thanksgiving service?

Pycl #3: What is important about gratitude, how does it contribute to healing? When we are grateful to God, we tend to be noticing the good that God is providing, how He is governing (reigning is a huge theme in the Thanksgiving lesson). We are not just drifting along and accepting what material sense has to "say" about what is around us. The more we recognize, are conscious of God's goodness, the more of it we see. Section 6 in the lesson on Soul and Body has a set of citations S27-S30 that address the way that material sense enslaves us, and how we can be free of that enslavement. Gratitude is a great way to help us move material sense off the "throne" and make room for the truth of God's present goodness.

Pycl #4: Speaking of thrones… I like the idea in citation S19 of how Mind/God/Good is "enthroned". Talk about what a throne is, who sits on it, what they do. Then you can liken our consciousness to that "throne". What do we want sitting there? What do we want wearing a "crown"? Do we want the tyranny of anger, sadness, sickness? Well, how do we keep those things off the throne? What actions can we take to put the truth where it belongs in our thought? With younger children you can bring in a crown or a "throne", (some sort of special chair, or a piece of cardboard you've decorated and attached to a regular chair), to sit in and contemplate what you want to be reigning.

Pycl #5: How about making a gratitude book this week. Bring in some pretty paper and a stapler. Younger children can draw something and you can write under it what they are grateful for. Older children can write something on each page. See if they can keep going beyond their family members (that's not a bad thing!), and think about other ways that they are grateful for God. How does God figure into their gratitude? For example, if they are grateful for mom and dad, what does that have to do with God? This is kind of like Pycl #3, in that when we see how God is active in our lives, we find ourselves even more grateful for God! His goodness is all the goodness there is, so everything truly good in our lives is attributable to Him, is eternal and infinite.
