P.S.S.T.  Golden Text (GT)/1st Timothy 2:5: “…there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;” and

P.S.S.T.  Responsive Reading (RR)/1st Peter 1:3-5,7-10,13,25  When things appear to be tough, it is wise to be still and consider what it is that you have inherited.

The passages in the Golden Text and Responsive Reading point to one God and we as the inheritors.
What is it that we inherit from God? Being incorruptible, undefiled, permanence, salvation, precious.
Christ Jesus pointed us all to these benefits through his life, works, teachings, preachings, healings. His words and works are permanent and endure forever. When things appear to be tough, it is wise to be still and consider what it is that you have inherited.

P.S.S.T.  Section 1 – Moses, known also as the great lawgiver, called all Israel, and us by extension, to listen, to hear, to open our ears and hearts to learn and keep the statues or laws of God, and then to do them. What are the laws that Moses shared with us? We know them as the Ten Commandments. This may be a good time to review them. How many can your students state from memory?

Acting on the commandments points towards man’s perfection.
Following the ancient prophets Christ Jesus also pointed to the laws and provided guidance, light, and showed man’s perfectibility.

Note Mary Bake Eddy’s statement about the ancient prophets in citation S1/Science & Health 84:3-7. She refers to Jesus as one who demonstrated or proved the Christ. See citation S4/332:19,29.

What do your students know about the Christ? See Science & Health 583:10 and 473:10.

“CHRIST.  The divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error.” (S&H 583:10)

“Christ is the ideal Truth, that comes to heal sickness and sin through Christian Science, and attributes all power to God. Jesus is the name of the man who, more than all other men, has presented Christ, the true idea of God, healing the sick and the sinning and destroying the power of death. Jesus is the human man, and Christ is the divine idea; hence the duality of Jesus the Christ.” (S&H 473:10)

P.S.S.T.  Section 2 – Read together the story of Jesus being tempted in the wilderness (cit. B7/Matthew 4:1-11).
Ask students to consider when they are fearful, worried, anxious, uncertain, that these may be their own wilderness experiences.
How can they respond? As Christ Jesus did when he said, “Get thee hence, Satan”. As a result of that declaration, the way was opened for Jesus to do his life’s work. Which was….? See Matthew 4:23.

Jesus understood his place in the line of prophets. He said in Matthew 5:17, “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.”

Is this your calling too – to fulfil the law of the prophets (which includes Christ Jesus)?

See citation S13/326:3-5.  This is not just wishful thinking, but a demand/command of Christ Jesus to us, his followers.

P.S.S.T.  Section 3 – Are you able, are you capable, to follow in Jesus’ footsteps? Read together citation S18/496:15.

Read together Hymn 543(221) from the Christian Science Hymnal (words supplied here)

Hymn 543 (221)

O Jesus, our dear Master, / Your works, now understood, / Reveal their full effulgence / Through love and brotherhood. / Today Christ’s precious Science / Your healing power makes plain: / With joy may all obey you / And cast out sin and pain.

The Christ, eternal manhood, / As God’s own Son beloved, / A tender ever-presence / Within each heart is proved. / O God, our Father-Mother, / Your name we see expressed / By man, who in Your Science / Is perfect, holy, blessed.

O Science, God-sent message / To tired humanity, / You are Love’s revelation / Of Truth that makes us free. / Your kingdom, God, within us / Shows forth Love’s sweet control. / God’s idea, man, rejoices; / We know the reign of Soul.

P.S.S.T.  Section 4 – Follow Jesus’ example of his heavenly minded ness that blesses all with great earthly good!  What does “The divinity of the Christ was made manifest in the humanity of Jesus” mean to your students? (cit. S19/25:31)

How did Jesus’ knowledge of and adherence to the laws of God aid and guide his humanity, not only to the woman in citation B10/John 4, but in other actions in his life as well. Think about the healing of Lazarus, of Peter’s wife’s mother, of feeding the multitudes.

My father-in-law used to say, “Don’t be so heavenly minded that you are no earthly good.”

Humanity yearns for goodness. See Science & Health 570:14-18:
“Millions of unprejudiced minds — simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers, athirst in the desert — are waiting and watching for rest and drink. Give them a cup of cold water in Christ’s name, and never fear the consequences.”

P.S.S.T.  Section 5 – How are we benefitted today from Ananias’ healing of Saul/Paul?  How did Ananias in citation B12/Acts 9 show his humanity by leaning heavily on the Christ?
Think of all of Paul’s writings, travels, churches established, and bringing the Christ to the Gentiles. Before Saul became Paul, he had to yield to what? The laws of the prophets, the revelation of “God with us”. See citation S22/326:23.

Paul’s life and works point us back to the Golden Text – one God, one mediator, and the Christ forever with us. Do you doubt that you are able/capable of understanding/demonstrating this? See citations  S25/494:11, and S26/37:22-25.

P.S.S.T.  Section 6 – Discuss “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (cit. B15/1st Thes. 5:18) [What does that means to your students — especially when some of those “every thing(s)” include “adverse circumstances” that really stretch us? (See S&H 419)

If you are doubtful [about living up to the Master’s mastery of every moment,] look to the prayer in the Sixth Tenet of Christian Science, Science & Health 497:24, “… And we solemnly promise to watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus; to do unto others as we would have them do unto us; and to be merciful, just, and pure.”

This is being both heavenly minded and earthly good.
