[PSST: Welcome the gift of rest! Know why you’re invulnerable! (3) Practice resistance! (4)]
Possible Sunday School Topics for the Christian Science Bible Lesson on;
Probation After Death
for Sunday, April 23, 2017

By Steve Henn, C.S. St. Louis, Missouri

[Warren: Steve's been a CedarS Program Director & teaches English at The Principia School.]

PSST Golden Text (GT): What are the claims of animal magnetism, hypnotism, etc? Why would rest be a welcome gift from God or Truth?

PSST Reading Room (RR): What can God, Truth, Love, Spirit, Soul provide that error or matter promises but cannot deliver? What are the sources of these promises – cell phones, social media, personal relationships, personal abilities, material supply, drugs, etc… What do these sources promise; how do they hypnotize; and how trustworthy is God/good/Spirit in comparison to these?

PSST Section 1 – What is the origin of error? How does animal magnetism attempt to enter our experience? Where must we begin our practice of Christian Science? How does Nehemiah demonstrate this proper beginning?

PSST Section 2 – How does humility (B5) connect with putting up a strong defense, as Nehemiah does? What is the source of Nehemiah’s strength and confidence? How often are your students watchful, sober, and vigilant?

PSST Section 3 – Offer citation B10 as a point of discussion – “who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?” Does following God leave us vulnerable? How can we be harmed by following good? Press them on this to go beyond the simple answer of – “we can’t be harmed” to explore the suggestions of who will attempt to harm them and then explore the rest of this section to discover why they are completely protected from that suppositional harm.

PSST Section 4 – Offer citation B13 as an exercise for your students to work with this week – what are the suggestions of the devil that they face on a daily basis? What does it look like for them to resist these suggestions? Can they commit to practicing this resistance – and report back the results of that practice next week? Encourage them to take on simple suggestions they are confident they will face and be able to resist; encourage them also to tackle at least one possible suggestion they are not sure they can resist, and see if they can make progress in this direction.

PSST Section 5 – How often do your students “wait on God”? How expectant are they of the goodness promised by Christ? How fully do they trust that God, good, Life, Principle is a very present help in trouble? What examples can you share with them that demonstrate this truth?

PSST Section 6 – What is New Jerusalem? Why is it significant in the denunciation of hypnotism, animal magnetism, error of every kind?
