Christian Science Bible Lesson: Unreality — March 31- April 6, 2014

  • We are always thinking something.  Let’s explore in this Lesson how harmony is the indicator of God in our lives which encourages us to follow only that which is good and perfect, the real, and to un-see that which is unreal.

P.S.S.T.  Golden Text – “…thou shalt not see evil any more.”  This could be considered both a command and a demand.  As an absolute statement it means you can do it.  Ask students to share examples or experiences where God’s presence in their lives led to protection, safety, healing — a harmonious working out.

P.S.S.T.  Responsive Reading (R.R.) – The opening of the Responsive Reading is also a command and/or demand to look for the good perfect, harmonious, and to un-see anything clamoring for attention that is un-Godlike and therefore unreal.  Look to the other action words in the R.R. as tools to support the un-seeing: Take, sing, fear not, behold, turn back.  Are you a captive to the physical senses?  What is another word for captive? Slave.  Ask students to make a short list of enslaving characteristics and then write out the opposite harmonizing quality.  Which one is real?  Which one is desired to have place in their lives?

P.S.S.T.  Section 1 – Who is in charge of your life? B1.  What does the Lord give you as assistants in the work of un-seeing?  Grace, good, life, judgment.  Sometimes we are averse to judging and think of it as a negative.  However, if we consider that we regularly judge in order to discern what we should think, perceive, choose to act upon, then we should cultivate judging righteously.  Read the Science & Health portion of this section and capture the opposite statements that aid in our un-seeing:

  • Everything good or worthy, God made.
  • Whatever is valueless or baneful, He did not make.
  • God is all.
  • There is no room for His unlikeness.
  • God is good.
  • Good cannot result in evil.
  • Goodness and spirituality are real.
  • Evil and materiality are unreal.
  • God is infinite.
  • Evil has no place in this infinity.
  • There is one Mind.
  • Evil can only seem to be real by giving reality to the unreal.

P.S.S.T.  Section 2 – Here is another command or demand:  “Take heed that ye be not deceived.”        What are Elijah and the widow woman required to un-see and thus be saved for a moment and for all moments to come?  What is the command/demand in citation B10?  “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

P.S.S.T.  Section 3 – How does divine Love meet every human need?  It does so in, as, or through man.  Therefore you have a role and responsibility.  As you participate in the great un-seeing of that which is not good or harmonious in your life or in the lives of others, what do you think happens?  Look to the Bible portion of this section for answers.

  • Creation ever appearing
  • Inexhaustible source
  • Reflection
  • Infinity
  • Human capacities are enlarged and perfected
  • You command the situation

P.S.S.T.  Section 4 – The opening of this section presents another command or demand.  B11.  There is a good role-play activity in citation B12.  What did the Hebrew boys un-see and see that assured harmony, protection, safety?  How about the King and his counselors?  Were they also benefitted by this un-seeing?  What does the First Commandment demand that we see?  Why was the First Commandment Mary Baker Eddy’s favorite text? S18.

P.S.S.T.  Section 5 – Read the Bible story in citation B15.  What did the sower have to un-see in this experience?  Could there ever be tares?  What angel message was sent to the sower?  Your job then is to be receptive to, listen to, and adhere to, the angel visitors who will aid in your great un-seeing.  For what are you looking?  (S22, lines 27-30 – the spiritual fact in all things).  See also in citation S23 that the tares and wheat never mingle.  You command the situation in all ways and this is the great demand on you.  What is the result?  What do you desire the result to be?  Answer rightly.
