[PSST: Think of God as a fountain of Love abundantly pouring you out as Love.]

Possible Sunday School Topics for the Christian Science Bible Lesson

for July 10-16, 2017

prepared by Merrill Boudreaux, CS 314-308-1059

P.S.S.T. Golden Text – Where does your life originate and forever dwell? In God’s steadfast love for you and all ideas. Think of God as a fountain called Life who is pouring you out permanently. Think of God as a fountain called Love who is pouring you out from the abundance the infinite called Love.

Read together Hymn 218 from the Christian Science Hymnal (below).

P.S.S.T. Responsive Reading – How is mankind blessed – this includes you and all ideas – as stated in the Responsive Reading:

  • Blessed when you trust in the Lord
  • Blessed when you hope in the Lord
  • Blessed as a tree planted by the waters
  • Blessed when your leaves (life) are green and ever renewed
  • Blessed is your fruit, the evidence of your permanent life
  • Blessed when you are healed, which is a certainty
  • Blessed because you hold the lamp that ever illumines and shows the way
  • Blessed because you have length of days, a long life, and peace in all your endeavors
  • Blessed because you are favored of the Lord

P.S.S.T. Section 1 – Who made today? Who made your day? Who made you to partake of this day? B2.

What has God commanded for you during the day and during the night? B1 and S3.

Does time have anything to do with your life? S3, lines 4-8.

Read together citation S4, Science & Health 215:12-14. Then answer the question: Who governs you?

Can you ever be deprived of the light called inspiration? Is darkness as real as light? What happens to darkness when light shines forth? Really, can there ever be such a thing as darkness when light is a permanent quality of God as Love, Spirit, who is always evolving life? S5.

In Miscellaneous Writings, page 400:13, Mary Baker Eddy has a prayer for the Little Children:

Father-Mother God,

Loving me, –

Guard me when I sleep;

Guide my little feet

Up to Thee.

I have paraphrased this prayer to be used during the daytime as well. I pray:

Father-Mother God,

Loving me, –

Guard me through the day,

Guide my little feet

All the way.

P.S.S.T. Section 2 – Can the word of God, the truth about your life, ever be set aside? B4. Once again, the word of God is a lamp, illuminating your path. You can never be led astray.

In citations B6 and B7, how long did Enoch live on the earth? Did Enoch die? What does ‘translate’ mean? Transferred to another place or different form.

What are you called upon to be mindful of in citation B8? See also Eddy’s definition of Day in S&H, page 584. Does Day have anything to do with time?

Look up Eddy’s definition of Time in S&H, Page 595. It is divided into two parts – the material and spiritual definitions.

Read together citations S6, S7, S8. What do you think it means that Enoch walked with God? How was Enoch a role-model for us? He was guided into the demonstration of life eternal.

P.S.S.T. Section 3 – Read together the story of Elisha in citation B11. How does the bible passage in citation B2 relate to the Elisha story? What would you say are the key ideas in both passages? What is the fact Eddy states in citation S14, S&H 388, lines 22-24?

P.S.S.T. Section 4 – If we should ever make a decision that turns out to be an unwise one, must we suffer the results forever? See S&H 322:3-7. How was this truth applied in the Bible story in citation B15? Who beside the Prodigal Son was also blessed in this story? The father? The brother? Remember, no one is left out of God’s love and life. Read citation S22 as a guidepost to a righteous and long life.

P.S.S.T. Section 5 – We have another Bible story in citation B17 that showcases life eternal. What does Jesus’ overcoming the belief in death demonstrate? S26. What is the absolute statement by Eddy in citation S26, S&H 289, lines 27-29? How was Lazarus blessed in this experience? How about his sisters, how were they blessed? What restraints were removed from Lazarus? Was this a miracle? What absolute facts was Jesus adhering to with this healing? Use the previous aspects of this Lesson to come up with your list. [Check out the fun TMCYouth puppet, Live News interviews on the Lazarus story at . We showed this video to 12 cabin groups today in CedarS Bible Lands Park rotations and they loved it.]

P.S.S.T. Section 6 – What do you now understand about life, death, blessings, longevity, permanent good, as a result of studying this Lesson?

Read together citation S30. This is so now, as much as it was so in the life of Christ Jesus, Lazarus, Enoch, Elisha and the Prodigal Son, father, and brother.

Read together Hymn 450 from the Christian Science Hymnal Supplement (below—from spiral paperback Supplement).

Hymn 218:

O Life that maketh all things new, The blooming earth, the thoughts of men; Our pilgrim feet, wet with Thy dew, In gladness hither turn again.

From hand to hand the greeting flows, From eye to eye the signals run, From heart to heart the bright hope glows, The seekers of the Light are one:

One in the freedom of the truth, One in the joy of paths untrod, One in the heart’s perennial youth, One in the larger thought of God;—

The freer step, the fuller breath, The wide horizon’s grander view; The sense of Life that knows no death,— The Life that maketh all things new.

Hymn 450:

O house of God, built on a firm foundation, Standing secure amid the storms of life, Where all may come to learn of true salvation And find release from discord, pain, and strife.

We hear the Word, in song and sermon spoken, In silent prayer, we turn to God today; Our humble hearts receive the blessed token Of Truth that guides us in the upward way.

O Father, feed us with Thy bread from heaven, The living water, may we drink of Thee, And every lesson which Thy love hath given Oh, may we learn it with humility.

We feel Thy peace, Thine arms of Love enfolding, We lift our hearts in praise and gratitude, And from this hour, a glimpse of heaven beholding, Go forth at last, our joy and strength renewed.
