P.S.S.T. Golden Text – What is the message in the Golden Text scripture from Psalms?

  • Unfailing love
  • Faithfulness
  • Immensity
  • Light enabling us to see

When we have a subject like “Life”, ask students what do they expect to learn from such a topic?

Maybe:

  • Who am I?
  • Why am I here?
  • Who created me?
  • How long will I live?
  • Why is my view of eternity so limited?
  • How long is Life? (Note the capital L)

P.S.S.T. Responsive Reading – What are some possible answers to questions found in the Responsive Reading?

  • We are witnesses to eternal life
  • Look unto the life of Christ Jesus for evidence that life is eternal. Think about his healings, especially raising individuals from death.
  • God is light; no darkness in Him
  • Love for one another is enabled with light
  • We are charged with not putting a stumbling block in front of our brothers/sisters
  • God’s will for you is to exist forever
  • God promised us eternal life

P.S.S.T. Section 1 – Is God dead? Impossible! Why?

Note the references throughout the lesson to “light.” What is the purpose of light? What are examples of using light to look into the vastness of space? How has man’s view of the universe changed over time? Think about the discovery of new worlds, new peoples, ancient peoples, improvements in travel, transportation, interactions of people across the globe.

How are you like a tree planted by the rivers of water? (Citation B5)

Do you desire to see things more spiritually? How can you do that? (Citation S7)

Read together Citations S1 and S2. What are some synonyms given in them for Life? In addition to the seven prominent synonyms, also include infinite, substance, intelligence.

P.S.S.T. Section 2 – Why did Jesus Christ stand out so prominently during his time on earth, and even now some 2,000-plus years later? What do your students know about the life of Jesus Christ? What light did he shed on the questions of his day and even of our day? That is, how did his life and his works show who we are and of what we are capable? Do you desire to be taught of Jesus Christ, accept his truth, seek the light he shed or revealed about God and God’s creation? You are God’s reflection. What role does light play in reflection? That is, without light can reflection even exist or be a thing?

P.S.S.T. Section 3 – Read together Citation B12. Who is the Son of God mentioned in this Citation? Does Son of God also include each of us? Could you consider Jesus a great teacher? Think about any special teachers from your life. How have they been as one who shared, or brought to bear, light on a particular subject? What are some of the truths or light Jesus taught? A big one is: Life eternal (Citations S15 and S17).

What will you attempt in your life if you know you could not fail? Isn’t that what teachers work to show you and have you prove in their classes? How was Jesus a teacher to his disciples (followers, that also includes us)?

P.S.S.T. Section 4 – Jesus often taught by using stories or parables. Read the story in Citation B14. What do you think he was teaching? Citation B15 gives a possible answer. Are you taking advantage that you have been presented with Christian Science in advance of others? (See Retro. & Intro., p. 93)

How are you using this Science or the truth of being at-one with God as reflection?

Read together Citation S22. Read together Mary Baker Eddy’s message to you in Citation S24.

P.S.S.T. Section 5 – What do your students know about Jesus’ apostles? Ask them to take any one of them and share any information they know.

Do students know where to find information about the apostles/disciples? How about in the scripture book, “Acts of the Apostles”?

Ask students to turn randomly to passages in this book and share an apostle story they find. Read together Mary Baker Eddy’s message about our privileges as Christian Scientists, followers of Christ Jesus today, in Citation S29, especially SH 428:3.

P.S.S.T. Section 6 – What has light or illumination revealed to you today that you might not have seen before? Or, what has this lesson reaffirmed for you about what you understand about Life? Pair with another student and share your experience.

Conclude with reading aloud Citation S32, “Life, Truth, and Love are the realities of divine Science. They dawn in faith and glow full-orbed in spiritual understanding.”
