Possible Sunday School Topics (PSSTs) by Merrill Boudreaux

for the Christian Science Bible Lesson: “God the Preserver of Man”

for June 10-16, 2013

P.S.S.T. Golden Text – Let’s anchor this lesson with Hymn 77 from the Christian Science Hymnal – “God is my strong salvation…”

P.S.S.T. – Responsive Reading – Read together all of Psalm 91.  Ask students to list all of the assurances offered in this Psalm.  Is there any place you can go where God, Love, has not gone before you, is there to protect and preserve you?  Can you ever be out of His sight?

P.S.S.T. – Section 1 – Read aloud together Hymn 444 from the Supplement to the Christian Science Hymnal – “I am the Lord, there is none else…”  Ask students, have you ever had a Noah moment where God directed you to act, even though it might have seemed weird at the time?  What was Noah asked to do?  What was the result of his obedience?  What do you think it means to talk in close fellowship with God?  Look to Hymn 325 in the Christian Science Hymnal for prayer answers to that question – “Take up thy cross, the Saviour said,..”

P.S.S.T. – Section 2 – What did God command Moses to do? (B-8)  Where did God lead the Children of Israel?  How did God lead the Children of Israel?  What signs did He place before them for their assurance they were on the right path?  The word “chosen” arises in both Sections 1 and 2 of this Lesson – both Noah and Moses.  Why do you suppose God chose them?  Is it possible they had chosen God first and were willing?  What does willing to be obedient to God look like in your life?  Look to Hymn 90 in the Christian Science Hymnal as a willing prayer – “Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah,…”

P.S.S.T. – Section 3 – What other individuals in the Bible were preserved by God?  Daniel, Saul/Paul, David, the boys in the fiery furnace, the widow woman, the Children of Israel in the wilderness.  Look to Hymn 46 from the Christian Science Hymnal for daily guidance – “Day by day the manna fell…”

P.S.S.T. – Section 4 – Ask students to memorize, “All of God’s creatures, moving in the harmony of Science, are harmless, useful, indestructible” (Science & Health 514:28, S-15).  What are the relations between God and man stated at the end of citation S-16?  How were those relations evidenced in the story of Daniel in citation B-14?  Look to Hymn 177 in the Christian Science Hymnal for guidance in understanding the relationship between God and man – “Look, ye saints, the day is breaking…”  Who is left out?  No one.

P.S.S.T. – Section 5 – If Jesus were here today, would you gladly receive him?  Since the Christ is here today, that is God with us, see also the definition of Christ in Science & Health 583:10.  Will you gladly receive the Christ?  Will you look to the Christ and not matter to tell who you and everyone else is?  What did this knowledge possessed by Christ Jesus allow, permit, and assure what he could do in the Bible story in citation B-18?  Was this a miracle or a natural outcome?  Look to Hymn 14 in the Christian Science Hymnal as a call to action and assurance of the outcome – “Arise, arise and shine,…”

P.S.S.T. – Section 6 – What is the promise given to all mankind in citation B-20?

What is the surety given in citation B-21?

Read aloud together Psalm XXIII in citation S-26.

Now close the lesson with reading together Hymn 354 in the Christian Science Hymnal – “’Tis God the Spirit leads…”

Does God, will God preserve every idea that God creates?  Answer rightly and answer quickly a resounding Yes!  Amen indeed!

[Warren P.S.: For all Sunday School pupils who learn better by seeing and by doing, CedarS is providing a summer series of skits that go along with each week's Christian Science Bible Lesson. This week some CedarS high-school-aged campers in Jr. Leadership (JL) acted out a skit about this week's 4th section Daniel story on the deck of their JL Palace overlooking CedarS Bible Lands Park.  This summer series of Bible reenactment plays written to bring Bible Lesson.stories to life and to modern day application is a key component of a Girl Scout Gold project by Girl Scout Gold candidate Sara Romo. Look later this week for a Vimeo.com video of this skit to be posted on CedarS website as well as for a YouTube video of it to be posted by TMCYouth.com.  Tune in each week for a video version of a Bible Lesson skit and its application ideas.  Each week at the upper right corner of CedarS latest Metaphysical webpage you can also download free of charge a script to reenact a current Bible Lesson story with possible discussion questions at the end designed to bring new scriptural understanding and applications.  CedarS can continue to provide such scripts and videos online free-of-charge as long as those blessed by them contribute to "Sara’s G.S. Gold Project" on top of the initial $1,000 that she raised by cookie sales and other such fund-raising projects.]
