P.S.S.T. Golden Text – Is it possible to be separated from God? Since God is good, is it possible to be separated from good? Read together Hymn 135 from the Christian Science Hymnal (printed here):

Hymn 135

I know no life divided, O Lord of life, from Thee; In Thee is life provided For all mankind and me:

I know no death, O Father, Because I live in Thee; Thy life it is that frees us From death eternally.

I fear no tribulation, Since, whatsoe'er it be, It makes no separation Between my Lord and me:

Since Thou, my God and Father, Dost claim me as Thine own, I richly shall inherit All good, from Thee alone.

(Hymn. 135:1, 2)

P.S.S.T. Responsive Reading – Please read together all of Psalm 91. Ask students to identify passages from it that assure us of being linked to good, never abandoned, never cast out or cast off.

Review the scripture story of Hagar, Abraham, and Ishmael in Genesis 21:9-20.

What are the key ideas in the Responsive Reading – Psalm 36:5-7?

Read also Psalm 139:7-11. What assurances does this scripture provide?

P.S.S.T. Section 1 – What does it mean that your steps are ordered by the Lord? (Citation B3)

See also Isaiah 30:21 – “And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.” (Isa. 30:21)

Does this scripture assurance apply to you only or does it include all ideas? Can you place your questions on the altar and expect a response, even one that might alter the human circumstance? This does not mean one uses prayer to receive a prescribed end, but to open thought for God, good, to reveal the next step – and the ones after that.

P.S.S.T. Section 2 – What does it mean to serve the Lord? Look to Exodus 20:3 for an answer. See also Citation S7. Pay particular attention to the statement, “‘Love thy neighbor as thyself;’ annihilates pagan and Christian idolatry, – whatever is wrong in social, civil, criminal, political, and religious codes; equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man, and leaves nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed” (Science & Health 340:25-29).

What is the curse on man that is referred to, to be annulled? It is part of the story of Adam and Eve where they are cast out from God’s presence. What is the counterfact [W: Treat-ment] to the counterfeit [W: Trick] suggestion of being cast out? The counterfact is man linked to God. How about inextricably linked to God? Ask students to define “inextricable” from Dictionary.comincapable of being disentangled, undone, loosed…”

P.S.S.T. Section 3 – Does God arrange laws to bring about evil results? (Citation S8)

Read also Citations S10 and S11. Ask students to state in their own words what these citations mean to them.

P.S.S.T. Section 4 – How do the truths in this Lesson discussed so far have impact on the human circumstance? Look to Citations 13-19 for guidance. Ask students to pick out key words or phrases meaningful to them. Here are a few that stand out to me:

  • Harmony of health
  • Forsake discord
  • Divine Mind brings out harmony
  • Blending with God
  • Gives man dominion over all the earth
  • Establish health
  • Sickness, as well as sin, is an error
  • The divine Mind makes perfect, acts upon the so-called human mind through truth
  • Nothing is left which deserves to punish or to be punished
  • Christian experience teaches faith in the right and disbelief in the wrong

P.S.S.T. Section 5 – Is man a sinner? Important to answer this question because being a sinner would separate man from God. Remember though, separation from God, good, is an impossibility. Go back and look at Hymn 135 again, especially verse 2 (printed at the Golden Text part of these PSSTs), “It makes no separation between my Lord and me.” – Therefore, Fear Not.

P.S.S.T. Section 6 – What are some qualities of God in Citation B17? “…a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.”

Ask students to memorize Citation B22: “God hath blessed thee forever.”

See a correlation to this statement in Science & Health 494:10-11, “Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need.”

Read together Hymn 139 from the Christian Science Hymnal (printed here):

Hymn 139, (& 427, 503)

I walk with Love along the way, And O, it is a holy day; No more I suffer cruel fear, I feel God's presence with me here; The joy that none can take away Is mine; I walk with Love today.

Who walks with Love along the way, Shall talk with Love and Love obey; God's healing truth is free to all, Our Father answers every call; 'Tis He dispels the clouds of gray That all may walk with Love today.

Come, walk with Love along the way, Let childlike trust be yours today; Uplift your thought, with courage go, Give of your heart's rich overflow, And peace shall crown your joy-filled day. Come, walk with Love along the way.

(Hymn. 139:1–3)

P.S.S.T. Section 7 – God made you free, forever linked to Her, never cast out, never punished.

See a hymn that declares you and your nature in Hymn 19 from the Christian Science Hymnal (printed here):

Hymn 19

Behold, they stand in robes of white Who out of tribulation came, With songs of joy upon their heads, They praise His holy name. O these are they whose hearts are pure, And free from sin or any stain, They stand before the throne of light, Their joy shall never wane.

They worship Him in spirit new, God's messengers of Love and Life, They do His will, they speak His Word, That stills all pain and strife. They show an ever clearer light, Like stars they shall forever shine; They witness truly to His Word, And God saith, These are Mine.

(Hymn. 19:1, 2)
