P.S.S.T. Golden Text (GT) Psalms 30:8,9: “I cried to thee, O Lord;… Shall the dust praise thee? Shall it declare thy truth?”

and Responsive Reading (RR): Who do you trust to guide you, to have your back, to know what is best for you, to always be there for you? Do you look to what the material senses tell you, or do you look for something more assuring, more caring, more permanent?

Read together Psalm 23. What does this Psalm tell us of who cares for us and how? Note especially Verse 2, “…he leadeth me…” and Verse 6, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life…” What could you conclude? Perhaps that God is in front leading and behind following, in fact surrounding me with goodness, comfort, guidance. See also Isaiah 30:21.

P.S.S.T. Section 1 – What manner of love has God, your Father-Mother, bestowed on you? Life, goodness, vision, strength, guidance. Most importantly, your God has delivered to you Christian Science, mankind’s best friend. Read together Citation S1 from Science and Health, p.468:8-15, the scientific statement about who you are, always have been, ever will be.

P.S.S.T. Section 2 – Citation S2 (SH 139:4-5), “From beginning to end, the Scriptures are full of accounts of the triumph of Spirit, Mind, over matter.”

Ask students to share any scripture stories with which they are familiar where Spirit, Mind, God, Good helped any individual(s) triumph over material claims or conditions.

Read together Citation S4 (SH 268:1-9). This is the opening statement from the chapter “Science of Being” in Science and Health. Which should prevail in us – belief in a material basis of life, or Mind as the cause of every effect?

P.S.S.T. Section 3 – Ask students to fill in the blanks from this passage in citation B7, John 6:63:

“It is the ________ that quickeneth, the ________ profiteth nothing.”

Look to citations S8 (SH 507:3-6, 28-29) and S11 (SH 262:10) to answer these questions:

  • Who duly feeds and clothes you
  • Who tenderly expresses the Father hood and Motherhood of God
  • What is ever-appearing and must ever continue to appear
  • Who must reverse feeble flutterings
  • Who must rise above the testimony of the material senses

P.S.S.T. Section 4 – What is the point of the scripture story in Citation B12 (Luke 12: 13,16-21,33,34)? Perhaps looking to matter for benefits, for joy, for fulfillment, for abundance is fruitless. Look to God, Spirit, Good, for the “depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!” (cit. B13, Romans 11:33).

Read together Hymn 224 from the Christian Science Hymnal (printed here)

Hymn 224 & 225

O Lord, I would delight in Thee, And on Thy care depend;
To Thee in every trouble flee, My best, my ever Friend.
When all material streams are dried, Thy fullness is the same;
May I with this be satisfied, And glory in Thy name.

All good, where'er it may be found, Its source doth find in Thee;
I must have all things and abound, While God is God to me.
O that I had a stronger faith, To look within the veil,
To credit what my Saviour saith, Whose word can never fail.

He that has made my heaven secure, Will here all good provide;
While Christ is rich, can I be poor? What can I want beside?
O God, I cast my care on Thee; I triumph and adore;
Henceforth my great concern shall be To love and praise Thee more.

Seeking and finding such riches in God, Spirit, Good, positions you to help others as stated in Citation S19 (SH 518:15-19). You can give of your heart’s rich overflow.

P.S.S.T. Section 5 – Do you desire to lose the human sense of matter as man and become its master? Citation S20 (SH 369:5-7,14-15).

How can you use Christian Science, or the Science of the Christ, or the Science of “God With Us” to aid in this work? See what Mary Baker Eddy states in Citation S22 (SH 423:8-24).

Are you a matter physician or a metaphysician? Look again to the Scientific Statement of Being (SH 468:8-15) for guidance.

Read further in Citation S26 (SH 285:27), “As mortals reach, through knowledge of Christian Science, a higher sense, they will seek to learn, not from matter, but from the divine Principle, God, how to demonstrate the Christ, Truth, as the healing and saving power.”

In other words, from Isaiah 45:22, “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.”

Remember the 23rd Psalm which told us He leadeth me, and followeth me.

P.S.S.T. Section 6 – Ask yourself, where am I looking for salvation, for help, for encouragement? Am I making progress in my growth and understanding? Citation S31 (SH 239:16-20).

Read together the answer to the question: “How can I progress most rapidly in the understanding of Christian Science?” (SH 495:25-31).

After studying this lesson, ask and answer the question: Who do you trust?

Conclude with reading Psalm 20:6,7.
