Possible Sunday School Topics by Merrill Boudreaux, CS,

for the Christian Science Bible Lesson: “SOUL” – February 10-16, 2014

P.S.S.T.  Golden Text: What does the word “Almighty” mean?  Having complete power; omnipotent.  Is there anything God can’t do?  Therefore is there anything you can’t do as God’s expression?

P.S.S.T.  Responsive Reading (RR):  What name(s) has God used to call you?  What has God given to each of us as listed in the RR?  How can we use the assurance of these gifts to apply to any situation in the world – whether it be drought, fire, snowfalls, disrespect, or the intent to marginalize anyone or any group??  Are we God’s people?  Is anyone left out?  That is, does anyone exist unknown by God?  Therefore we are beloved, watched over, protected. [See Hymn 278:1]

P.S.S.T.  Section 1:  What does the word “respect” mean?  A feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.  Why did God respect the Children of Israel?  Think about their achievements and the accomplishments of the individuals mentioned in citation B3.  What covenant has God made with you as one of the Children of Israel?  Read the definition in citation S3.  Read aloud citation S5.

P.S.S.T.  Section 2:  How was God with Jesus evidenced?  What did Jesus do in this Section because he knew God was with him?  Can we pray today as Jesus did back then?  What are the two anchoring words that begin this prayer?  OUR Father.  Read the Lord’s Prayer with its spiritual sense in citation S9.  Ask students to share their favorite part of this prayer and tell why.

P.S.S.T.  Section 3:  What does “prosper” mean?  To become very successful; to succeed; to become strong and flourishing.  How do you think God intends for you to prosper?  What are the attributes of God, Soul, that are yours?  Christ Jesus showed them to us in citation B13 and citation S11.  What would you say to sickness or a disease?  Read aloud citation S12.

P.S.S.T.  Section 4:  What is the big question in citation S17?  Well, do you?  What are the demands made on you by the science of Soul? (S16)  What is the result of accepting such demands?  What does the word “harmony” mean?  Agreement in feeling or opinions; accord.  Harmony removes discord of any kind.

P.S.S.T.  Section 5:  If discord is apparent – pause and wait for the message from God that restores harmony. (S18)  What does the word “transfigure” mean?  To change the appearance of someone or something.  When individuals in the Bible were transformed, they often took on a new name, the name God would know them by.  Ask students to provide some examples:  Saul to Paul, Simon to Peter, Jacob to Israel.  When Jesus was transfigured, what did God say about him?  What name did God use to call him? (B18)  What name is God using for you in citation S22?  “Man is the expression of Soul.”

P.S.S.T.  Section 6:  What does the voice of God reveal about you in citation B20?  That is a contract made between God and you, a contract that will not, cannot, be broken.  This is a taste of harmony and a foretaste of heaven.  See definition of Heaven in citation S25.  What happens to your experience when your thought is transformed or changed? (S27)  This is visible and it is felt.  When you are transformed, you become the salt of the earth, the light of the world, a city sent on a hill that shall not be hid.
