“Mortals and Immortals”
for the Christian Science Bible Lesson:

for May 19, 2013

P.S.S.T.  Golden TextExamine your thinking.  How are you thinking about yourself; your surroundings or your environment; what you are expressing that helps your friends relate to you, identify you, like you; what thoughts are clothing you, that is, how does the world know who you are?  Now answer the question, what do you desire them to know about you?  Shall you wear the old man or the new?  Let’s examine that question and possible answers in this lesson.

P.S.S.T. – Responsive ReadingWhat are the results when we live in the old persona or tent of expression?  What helps us to put off or come out from the old persona where we can behold “everything has become new”?  See Responsive Reading, II Cor. 5:17.

P.S.S.T. – Section 1Who made you?  From what are you made?  Who gave you life?  How long will you live?  What constitutes your ancestry, your heritage?  (Citation S-5)   Look at yourself, your surroundings, everyone you see through a new view with the answers to the questions just posed.

P.S.S.T. – Section 2You get to choose whether you view yourself through the Adam lens or through the Christ lens.  What is the result of each?  Citations B-6, B-8, S-6, S-10.  What is in your thought?

  • Adam – a dam, or obstruction  (See Science & Health 338:14-25.)
  • Christ – The divine manifestation of God  (See S&H 583:10.)

When we put off Adam or a dam from thought, what is the result? (S-10)

When we get clearer views of God and man there is cause for rejoicing.  See S&H 476:32-7.

P.S.S.T. – Section 3What did Jesus declare to Nicodemus that he must do?  How do you answer Nicodemus’ question?  How are we changed? (B-11)  What are you looking at?  A mortal, material you, or the you of Spirit’s creating?  What do you have to help you?  The material senses and all that they convey, or the spiritual sense?  (Citation S-13 and S&H 265:16 and 209:31-32.)

P.S.S.T. – Section 4 What do you suppose the gospel of the Kingdom in citation B-12 sounds like?  Ask students to list what they think Jesus said.  Where do you wish to live–in the Kingdom or outside it?  Can you ever be without or outside the Kingdom of Heaven?  Is heaven here, now, or somewhere else?  How you answer will determine your experience.  From where do you get your authority for such statements?  Citations S-20, S-21.  What is the doctrine of Christian Science that tells us the result of putting on the gospel or good news of the Kingdom of God?  See S&H 304:9.

P.S.S.T. – Section 5 Ah, here is a biggie.  Read the bible story in citation B-16.  Read aloud all of the S&H citations in this section.  What is the ultimate enemy to be overcome?  When does one begin the demonstration to overcome death?  If you wait until such and such a moment it becomes harder.  Start now to daily declare in thought life eternal and strive to understand what that means and you too will have the victory over death and the grave.  What makes you immortal, one who will live forever?  Citation S-26.

P.S.S.T. – Section 6 – When is the time of salvation?  Citations B-20, S-30.  What is now in your house (tent), consciousness, or thinking?  Complete the following with as many phrases as you can:

  • Now I am…..
  • Now my fellow beings are…..
  • Now I live in…..

These are all true now, and since there is only now, they are true forever.  Practice this and live ye!
