Possible Sunday School Topics by Merrill Boudreaux

for the Christian Science Bible Lesson: “Love” for February 2, 2014

P.S.S.T.  Golden Text – Please ask students to share how they have expressed love for someone else.

P.S.S.T.  Responsive Reading – By loving others we are demonstrating God dwelling in us.  On many Christian Science church walls is the statement from Science & Health: “Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need” (S&H 494:10-11).  How does Divine Love meet all human needs?  Divine Love does so in, as, and through man, that is, through you.  See Matthew 25:35-40.  Loving one another is a command and could be considered the 11th Commandment.  See John 13:34.

P.S.S.T.  Section 1 – How are you beholding your neighbor?  Are you seeing God’s image and likeness everywhere?  How are you defining your neighbor? (S3)  Ask students to pick a person at random and write out a few sentences as to how they are beholding that individual.  Then ask them to turn the paper over and write out how God is beholding that individual.  Compare the two “beholdings.”  Are they in sync?

P.S.S.T.  Section 2 – Read citation B4.  Which Commandment is this?  What is the result for you when following this Commandment? Exodus 20:12.  How did Shem and Japheth show honor for their dad? (B5)

P.S.S.T.  Section 3 – Read the Bible story in citation B9.  Who are the main characters?  Don’t forget the angel.  What good deed did Rebekah do?  Why was this considered a good deed?  What good deed did the eldest servant do?  What good deed did the angel do?

P.S.S.T.  Section 4 – Read the Bible story in citation B12.  Who are the main characters?  What good deed did the mother do?  What good deed did the sister do?  What good deed did Pharaoh’s daughter do?  What was the eventual result of these good deeds done for Moses?  Is love limited?  Can anyone ever be left out of love? S15.

P.S.S.T.  Section 5 – Read the Bible story in citation B16.  Who are the main characters?  What good deeds did the man of God, Elisha, do?  What good deed did the King of Israel do?  How is it best to conquer your enemy?  See verses 22 and 23 in citation B16.  See also citations S22, S24.

P.S.S.T.  Section 6 – What good deeds did Jesus do in this section?  What are the model actions identified for us to do?  (S27, S28, S29)

P.S.S.T.  Section 7 – What are the key words in citation B22?  Serve and love.

Is there a way your class can be of service expressing love for your church, a church member, or someone in the community?  This is evidence of Divine Love meeting every human need.
