P.S.S.T. Golden Text –What is the house of the Lord? Where is the house of the Lord? How can you dwell in it? Is it a far-off place, somewhere in the sky? Read together Science & Health 578:4-18 to aid in your answers.

P.S.S.T. Responsive Reading – what are the promises God has assured you of receiving now and forever as stated in the Responsive Reading?

  • My hiding place
  • Preserve me from trouble
  • Deliverance
  • Instruction and guidance
  • Fed
  • Strength in time of trouble
  • Help and deliverance
  • Thy keeper

Read together Hymns 359 and 81 from the Christian Science Hymnal (words below).

Hymn 359

Trust the Eternal when the shadows gather,

When joys of daylight seem so like a dream;

God the unchanging pities like a father;

Trust on and wait, the daystar yet shall gleam.

Trust the Eternal, for the clouds that vanish

No more can move the mountains from their base

Than sin's illusive wreaths of mist can banish

Light from His throne or loving from His face.

Trust the Eternal, and repent in meekness

Of that heart's pride which frowns and will not yield,

Then to thy child-heart shall come strength in weakness,

And thine immortal life shall be revealed.

(Hymn. 359:1–3)

Hymn 81

God is with me, gently o'er me

Are His wings of mercy spread;

All His way made plain before me,

And His glory round me shed.

Safely onward

Shall my pilgrim feet be led.

God is with me, and His presence

Shall my perfect guidance be,

Till my heart that peace inherit

God alone can give to me.

His all-power

Helps and heals, and sets me free.

(Hymn. 81:1,2)

P.S.S.T. Section 1 – Read together Psalm 91 from the scriptures. What assurances are listed there of God with you, preserving you every moment?
Do the same with citation B5. You are asked to do this as a re-affirmation and re-assurance that you are cared for, watched over, beloved, and protected each step of the way. Read together Hymn 499 from the gray Christian Science Hymnal (words below).

Hymn 499

I am the Lord, there is none else;

There is no God beside Me.

I girded thee, I girded thee,

Though thou hast not even known Me.

But know that from the rising sun

To the west there is none beside Me,

For I am the Lord, there is none else;

There is no God beside Me.

I am the Truth, there is none else;

There is no Truth beside Me.

Infinite light, bountiful, bright,

Is ever present to guide thee.

Beloved and free, eternally,

Perfect peace and joy I provide thee,

For I am the Lord, there is none else;

There is no God beside Me.

Innocent one, sinless and pure,

Nothing can ever divide thee.

Governed by Love, you are secure;

I am forever beside thee.

So rest and know wher-e'er you go,

Home and heaven cannot be denied thee,

For I am the Lord, there is none else;

There is no God beside Me.

(Hymn. 499:1–3)

Citation S2 is a great memorization opportunity.

P.S.S.T. Section 2 – Read citations B9 and B11. Ask students to make a list of places where they are assuredly preserved, like these places from those two citations:

  • On the sea, in great waters, with the workers
  • In ships
  • During a storm
  • With the wind
  • When asleep
  • In the calm as well

Why is this so, even during tumultuous times? See citations S8 and S9 for guidance.

P.S.S.T. Section 3 – How did Jairus express his confidence in God’s preservation of his daughter in citation B15? The love that Jairus had for his daughter stilled his fear and overcame his doubt. Read together S&H 495:14, partially included in citation S15.

P.S.S.T. Section 4 – What are angels? S&H 581:4.

Ask students to share experiences where angels came to their aid. Are there any bible stories they are familiar with where angels helped individuals or groups be protected or saved? See what Mary Baker Eddy tells us about her personal angels in citation S18. Other words for angels found in that citation are “spiritual guides”.

P.S.S.T. Section 5 – How does citation S21 sound similar to what may be going on in our world today? Should we fear or be afraid? Why not? Have you shaped your course with divine Science? Read together S&H 225:5.

What is a standard as mentioned in that passage? Think about it as a flag during battles so soldiers or troops know where their leader or their fellow troops are. This standard may also be a rallying cry or anthem to serve as a support for your school, team, or country.

Ask students if they have any rallying points in Christian Science that they call upon during troubling times. Like:

  • God is Love
  • Shepherd, show me how to go
  • Man is spiritual, not material
  • Perfect God and perfect man

P.S.S.T. Section 6 – What are your Heavenly Father’s promises to you found in the scriptural portion of this section?

  • I will deliver him
  • I will set him on high
  • I will answer him
  • I will honour him
  • I will satisfy him
  • I will preserve him and keep him alive
  • He shall be blessed upon the earth

Read together Isaiah 65:24.

God always hears!
