[PSST: Fail-proof Your Life with Love!]
Possible Sunday School Topics (PSSTs) by Merrill Boudreaux
for the Christian Science Bible Lesson: “Love” for February 3, 2013
P.S.S.T. – Golden Text – What, who, is Love? Why would it never fail? Consider the nature of God as Love. Why does God love you? What does Love require of you and everything that God, Love, made? What would be evident in the world if each of us practiced love for one another? See citation S-15.
P.S.S.T. – Responsive Reading – What are directions given to each of us in the Responsive Reading? What are the statements of how we are to be in relationship with each other? What is charity? How can you practice it in speech, in action, in how you think about yourself or anyone else?
P.S.S.T. – Section 1 – Can you trust God to do what God has said She will do? (Citation S-4) Can God trust you to do what you say you will do?
P.S.S.T. – Section 2 – What does God say to you in citation B-5?
Read the story in B-7 (Genesis 24). What role did the servant play? What role did the angel play? See the definition of “angels” in Science & Health, page 581. What was the outcome of the prayer of listening? What do you think Rebekah heard? What did Rebekah agree to do? Who in this story do you think was precious in God’s sight? Abraham? Isaac? Rebekah? How had God previously showed His love for Abraham and Isaac? See story of the Isaac sacrifice, Genesis 22.
P.S.S.T. – Section 3 – What does “dissimulate” mean? Can someone fake love? How?
How was Isaac blessed by God in citation B-10, Genesis 26? Why was digging a well and finding water such a big deal in B-10? Why do you think Isaac was okay about giving up two wells? What do you think he was really giving up? Selfishness, pride, belief in limitation of supply? What did he assume or put on instead? (Citation B-11) How did Isaac demonstrate charity?
P.S.S.T. – Section 4 – How did Jesus demonstrate love in the Bible portion of this section? (Citations B-14 & B-15) How can you demonstrate that you are an example of a believer in Christ Jesus? (Citation B-16) In what you say; in what you do. What is the result of your love when practicing Christian Science as a healer? See citation S-20, p. 365, lines 15-19. What are indicators of charity in citation S-21, p. 366, lines 30-9?
P.S.S.T. – Section 5 – Read aloud together Psalm 23. See [Mrs.] Eddy’s explanation of that Psalm in Science & Health, page 577:32 – 578:18.
What is spiritual sense? (Citation S-24)
Ask students to write out a statement about what they understand of God. What is at the heart and soul, the very core, of Christian Science? (Citation S-28)
So we come full circle: Will Love ever fail you? Indeed, you can rely on that truth.
