[PSST: Counteract—with a counter-fact—unreality & inharmony of all kinds! (3)]
Possible Sunday School Topics for the Christian Science Bible Lesson

Unreality – September 28 – October 4, 2015

prepared by Merrill Boudreaux, CS

P.S.S.T. Golden Text – Read aloud Hymn 444 from the Supplement to the Christian Science Hymnal, printed below. How many Gods are there? Was there a time pre-Abraham when there were multiple gods? Note the small “g” versus the capitol “G”. If you believe, as Abraham did, that there is one God only, what do you know of this God?

P.S.S.T. Responsive Reading – What is God saying to each of us in the Responsive Reading (RR)? What is the Psalmist declaring in the RR as a baseline around which to align our thinking, our praying, our living? Can you feel it down to your soul?

P.S.S.T. Section 1 – Read the creation story in Genesis 1. Note the order and harmony of the creation story. Read aloud together Hymn 45 from the Christian Science Hymnal, printed below. What are some elements of praising God in citation B4? Is the harmony stated in Genesis 1 universal? (S1) If so, can it be applied to any inharmonious or discordant situation – personal, in families, in the world? Do you realize that harmony is a law in the universe and you can rely on it? Why? (S4 and S5)

P.S.S.T. Section 2 – What does it mean to walk in the truth?( B6) Read Science & Health 495:25 – 496:27 for part of the answer. Is evil or error a noun? Be careful. If you answer Yes, then it must be classified as a person, place, or thing. If not a noun, then how must it be classified? As a false statement, not as a reality. What does S&H say about this in citation S10? If error or evil is real, can it be destroyed? If unreal, then recognize it as such and use truth through floodtides of love to counter it in our thinking, in our praying, in our lives. (S11)

P.S.S.T. Section 3 – Read aloud together citation B8, line 11. This is a wonderful memorization opportunity and is a direct counter-fact to depression or disquietude of any kind. What did King Saul do when he was disquieted? He called upon the Psalmist, David, for aid in singing songs (psalms). Ask students to read to the class their favorite Psalm, or to select one at random to provide inspiration.

What is real – harmony or discord? Can they exist simultaneously?

Which is real – health or sickness? Can they exist simultaneously?

Which is real – understanding or ignorance? Can they exist simultaneously?

Which is real – Mind or mortal mind? Can they exist simultaneously?

Do you realize these are laws of the universe available for you to deploy in every inharmonious circumstance? Read citations S16, S17, and S18.

P.S.S.T. Section 4 – Where is God the mighty creator of harmony in your life? (B12) Can evil befall thee? (B13) What are you called on to do when your thinking is plagued with doubt, fear, inharmony? (S22, lines 24-32) See also S&H 495:14. That statement is worth memorizing.

P.S.S.T. Section 5 – Jesus was the demonstrator of truths of our being. Mary Baker Eddy re-discovered those truths and shared them with mankind. Our job is to demonstrate them also. We must know them, however, before we can demonstrate them. Read citations S25 and S26. Can the tares in our thinking ever snuff out the wheat which is truth? Which is more powerful, ascendant, or permanent – the tares of mis-thinking, or the wheat of accurate-thinking and alignment with the laws of God, Good? (S28) See the definition of Kingdom of Heaven in the Glossary of Science & Health 590:1. Read hymn 278 from the Christian Science Hymnal, printed below.

P.S.S.T. Section 6 – What does it mean to be a ransom of the Lord or a remnant of the lost sheep of Israel? Do you realize you have been given, in advance of others, the Science of the Truth of being found in Science & Health? What are you doing with it? Read the call to action in citations B22 and S29. Do you reflect God, does everyone else, do all ideas? (S32) Finish with praying the benediction in Psalm 90:17.

Hymn 444:
I am the Lord, there is none else; There is no God beside Me. I girded thee, I girded thee, Though thou hast not even known Me. But know that from the rising sun To the west there is none beside Me, For I am the Lord, there is none else; There is no God beside Me.

I am the Truth, there is none else; There is no Truth beside Me. Infinite light, bountiful, bright, Is ever present to guide thee. Beloved and free, eternally, Perfect peace and joy I provide thee, For I am the Lord, there is none else; There is no God beside Me.

Innocent one, sinless and pure, Nothing can ever divide thee. Governed by Love, you’re safe and secure; I am forever beside thee. So rest and know wher-e’er you go, Home and heav’n cannot be denied thee, For I am the Lord, there is none else; There is no God beside Me.

Hymn 45:
Dear God, how glorious is Thy name Through all the earth and sea and sky. The wondrous heavens, Thy handiwork, The moon and stars hast Thou ordained.

Such tender beauty, Lord, from Thee Is shed abroad o’er all the earth; In bird, in sunbeam, light and flower Thy grace and goodness may be seen.

For this Thy gift unspeakable, The beauty of Love’s holiness, We lift our hearts in grateful song And would be always praising Thee.

Hymn 278:
Pilgrim on earth, home and heaven are within thee, Heir of the ages and child of the day. Cared for, watched over, beloved and protected, Walk thou with courage each step of the way.

Truthful and steadfast though trials betide thee, Ever one thing do thou ask of thy Lord, Grace to go forward, wherever He guide thee, Gladly obeying the call of His word.

Healed is thy hardness, His love hath dissolved it, Full is the promise, the blessing how kind; So shall His tenderness teach thee compassion, So all the merciful, mercy shall find.
