P.S.S.T. Golden Text –One often hears the words, “God bless you”, and sometimes “May the blessings of God be upon you”.
See how the Golden Text reverses these statements and in turn blesses God. Why would you bless God? Perhaps you might consider these words a blessing on God, “Thank you God”. What do you have to thank God for? Wisdom, power, might. What other names might you give for God that would expand your reasons for thanking Him/Her? Think beyond the seven prominent synonyms given in the Bible and listed in Science & Health by Mary Baker Eddy.

Read together Hymn 199 from the Christian Science Hymnal (printed here).

Hymn 199

Now thank we all our God With grateful hearts and voices

Who wondrous things hath done, In whom the world rejoices;

Who from the days of yore Hath blessed us on our way

With countless gifts of love And still is ours today.

We know our gracious God Through all our life is near us,

To fill our thoughts with light, To strengthen us and cheer us;

From His eternal care We never shall remove,

Encompassed by His grace, Enfolded in His love.

(Hymn. 199:1,2)

P.S.S.T. Responsive Reading – What is being revealed about God’s self in the Responsive Reading?

  • Who created us all
  • Who calls us by our names
  • Who is holy and the Holy One
  • Who is with us from wherever we come – east, west, north, south
  • Who has declared what is so and shewed it to us
  • Who makes a way for us and makes way for us to be who we are
  • Who is without equal
  • Who is strong in power and assures our success without fail

P.S.S.T. Section 1 – Read together citation B2. Now read the 1st Tenet found in SH 479:3. Why is it helpful to study the scriptures? Do you desire to be righteous (right thinking and right acting)?

Why was Daniel able to see the vision mentioned in citation B3 when others around him did not? See an answer in citation B4: “…God… revealed them… by his Spirit….” Ask students to share any experiences they have had when God has revealed the answer to a question they had. Are you entitled to answers?

Read together Isaiah 45:11.

Also read together Hymn 90 from the Christian Science Hymnal (printed here).

Hymn 90

Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah,

Pilgrim through this barren land:

I am Thine, and Thou art mighty,

Hold me with Thy powerful hand.

Bread of heaven! Bread of heaven!

Feed me now and evermore.

Open is the crystal fountain,

Whence the healing waters flow;

And the fiery cloudy pillar

Leads me all my journey through.

Strong Deliverer! Strong Deliverer!

Still Thou art my strength and shield.

(Hymn. 90:1,2)

P.S.S.T. Section 2 – What reasons can you find in the Bible portion of this section to thank, praise, and bless God?

  • God is our God forever and ever
  • God is great
  • God is good
  • God satisfies the longing soul (provides answers)
  • God fills the hungry soul (those yearning for fulfillment)
  • God heals, delivers from destruction

P.S.S.T. Section 3 – What is the role God appointed Christ Jesus to play – to fulfill? See citation B11.

What verse in citation B12 helps point to Jesus as the way-shower?

What was the way Christ Jesus pointed out to us? That is, what did Christ Jesus reveal to us about God and God’s nature? Read citations S14 and S15. What do the words omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient mean? How do these words apply to you and your daily living? See citation S16.

P.S.S.T. Section 4 – More blessings to God are stated in this section. What is it you are asked to declare? All revealed in us, his creation.

  • His glory
  • His wonders
  • His kindness
  • His strength
  • His beauty
  • His healing
  • His perfection

How were these attributes revealed in the bible story in B17? What does this bible story reveal about our present possibility of seeing and experiencing perfection?

P.S.S.T. Section 5 – What song would you like to sing as a blessing or in praise of God? Ask students to share a favorite hymn that speaks to them of God and God’s nature. What does citation S26 state that the scriptures inform of us? “with God all things are possible”.

P.S.S.T. Section 6 – What are blessings on God in citation B25?

“Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever” (Jude 1:24,25).

Read also the correlated statement in S31, SH 275:14:

“All substance, intelligence, wisdom, being, immortality, cause, and effect belong to God. These are His attributes, the eternal manifestations of the infinite divine Principle, Love. No wisdom is wise but His wisdom, no truth is true, no love is lovely, no life is Life but the divine; no good is, but the good God bestows.”

Read together Hymn 280 from the Christian Science Hymnal (printed here).

Hymn 280

Praise, my soul, the King of heaven; To His feet thy tribute bring.

Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, Who like us His praise should sing?

Praise Him, praise Him, praise Him, praise Him, Praise the everlasting King.

Fatherlike, He tends and spares us, Well our daily needs He knows;

In His hand He gently bears us, Rescues us from all our foes.

Praise Him, praise Him, praise Him, praise Him, Widely as His mercy flows.

Praise Him for His grace and favor To our fathers in distress;

Praise Him still the same forever, Slow to chide, and swift to bless.

Praise Him, praise Him, praise Him, praise Him, Glorious in His faithfulness.

(Hymn 280:1–3)

Praise God! Amen.
