P.S.S.T.  Golden Text/Psalms 19:7: “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.”

Ask students, What do you know about the laws of God?
Please share examples of such laws. Ex: From Genesis 1:31, “And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.”

P.S.S.T.   Responsive Reading (RR)/Deut.4:39; 27:1-3,8-10;  6:4,5

How many Gods are there? Only One, that is also a law. Do you consider the Ten Commandments to be laws of God, given for our guidance, protection, use, and how we are to live in harmony with each other? Is harmony a law of God?

Read together the last verse in the RR: “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might” (Deut.6:5).

P.S.S.T.  Section 1 – What do you think it means that every good gift from God is a perfect gift? And, that it cannot be turned away or turned aside, or set aside? And, that it is a permanent gift? Example – life – our very breath, strength, goodness, even how we see our fellow beings.
What does it mean to love the laws of God, how can we do so?
What is the nature of the relationship between God and Her creation? See citation S5, Science & Health 470:32 – it is indestructible, harmonious, spiritual, perfect, eternal, unchanged, Science.

P.S.S.T.  Section 2 – What role does fear have in the laws of God?
None, never a part of it. God’s law is a light to the people and in it is no darkness at all.

Read together the last verse in citation B8/Jeremiah 31:33: “I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.”

We might understand that statement to mean that God’s law is the very fabric or core of our being. It cannot be separated from us and we cannot separate from it. See S6/SH 476:4, “In divine Science, God and the real man are inseparable as divine Principle and idea.”

See another law of God stated in citation S9/SH 318:28-30, “In Science man is governed by God, divine Principle…”

Think about your every action and every thought is governed by God, and that is a law.

P.S.S.T.  Section 3 – “…let us love one another; for love is of God….”

This is another law stated in citation B9/I John 4:7,

Do you ever consider that statement to be a law, “love one another”?

It is further stated in citation B10/James 2:8, that this is a royal law.

And citation S14/SH 572 tells us that “Love fulfills the law of Christian Science….”

Read together Hymn 179 from the Christian Science Hymnal (words printed here):

Hymn 179
Love one another,—word of revelation; Love frees from error’s thrall,—Love is liberation. Love’s way the Master trod; He that loves shall walk with God. Love is the royal way.

Love knows no evil, neither shade of sadness; Love casts out every fear, lifts the heart to gladness. Love heals our every ill, All the law does love fulfill. Love is our answered prayer.

Love now is dawning over every nation; Showing true brotherhood, publishing salvation, Love bids all discord cease. Conquering hate, enthroning peace, Love, Love alone is power.

P.S.S.T.  Section 4 – What did Jesus say about his relationship to the law of God in citation B12/Matt.5:17?

How did he show proof of that law in the scripture story in citation B14/Luke 17?
Do you consider healing to be a law of God? Healing is therefore natural, not miraculous.

Ask students to share healings of their own.
Ask students to share any other healings from the scriptures with which they may be familiar that demonstrate these healings as the result of a law of God.
Stilling the waves, walking on the water, feeding the multitudes, raising Lazarus from the grave.

P.S.S.T.  Section 5 – Is God still with us? Is God ever-present?
Is healing still a law of God? Are you certain?
Read together citation S24/SH 496:15, “Hold perpetually this thought, –”

  • Is sickness a law of God?
  • Is sin a law of God?
  • Are dreams a law of God?
  • What is the antidote for such claims?

Perfection, as decreed and arranged by God, the only ONE, the creator of all there is, the declarer of love one another.

Read together Hymn 317 from the Christian Science Hymnal (words printed here):

Hymn 317
Still, still with Thee when purple morning breaketh, When the bird waketh, and the shadows flee, Fairer than morning, lovelier than the daylight, Dawns the sweet consciousness, I am with Thee.

Alone with Thee, amid the changing shadows, Solemn the hush of nature, newly born; Alone with Thee, in breathless adoration, In the calm dew and freshness of the morn.

So shall it ever be in the bright morning, When hearts awaking see the shadows flee, O, in that hour, and fairer than the dawning, Rises the glorious thought, I am with Thee.

P.S.S.T.  Section 6 – Be doers, not just hearers.

What was Jesus’ answer to the question in citation B18/Luke 18:18, “Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus declared that we are to be doers, not just hearers.

Read together the question and answer in citation S27/SH 495:25.

What are the daily demands on us? cit. S29/SH 233:1.

Never fear; you are making progress. You are adhering to and using the laws of God, and you and mankind are benefitted.

Read together in Miscellany 210:2-4, “Beloved Christian Scientists, keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love, that sin, disease, and death cannot enter them.”

And further, Miscellany 210:9: “And not only yourselves are safe, but all whom your thoughts rest upon are thereby benefited.”

Do you desire to be such a benefit? Godspeed.
