KEN’S POETIC PRELUDE for this week Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lesson on:
“Ancient and Modern Necromancy, Alias Mesmerism and Hypnotism, DENOUNCED” for May 30, 2021

[Ken wrote:] ““The infinity of God is our assurance of the nothingness of error. This is the simplicity of the Golden Text, “If God be for us, who can be against us?” What a comfort this brings, for the full armor of God is knowing the infinity of Truth, and when girt with Truth there is no error that can touch us, for there is no error in Truth.
Anything which tempts us to believe that there is a power besides God is suggestion, held in thought by mortal thought. It never enters man, the image of God. The delight in the poem “The Balloon” is that however oppressive seems to be the threat that may be presented, it has no substance, and can be completely eradicated by the point of a pin, a mere pinprick of Truth. With David and Goliath, a mere small stone found the weakness of the mighty Goliath, and despite all the material armour and sheer size of the enemy, when faced with spiritual preparation, the threat became nothing. With God at our side, there is nothing on the other side.
Jesus said “If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” (Matthew 17:20 if). This one grain has within it the full might of the fully grown tree. Infinite Mind sees seed, bud, and blossom simultaneously: they are as one in Mind. Hence the seed has within it the full power of the whole. In the same way, one with God is a majority. A seed of belief has behind it the full blossom of understanding, and cannot be blown away.
This poem confirms that If we have faith as the point of a pin, it is sufficient to destroy any error, for it has behind it the full force of Truth. It does not matter how vast the balloon, the point of a pin applied anywhere to its surface explodes its myth. When we know that God does the pointing, there is nowhere for error to hide or to be. The Balloon, its entire threat, is no more. We can point the finger of Truth, and laugh at the audacity of error, rejoice in its nothingness. In the poem, the Balloon is no more: “thou shalt not see evil anymore.” (Zephaniah 3:15 thou).
The Responsive Reading from Ephesians is a beautiful statement of just how much we can rely wholeheartedly on the power of God. The beautiful text of Ephesians 6:10-17 gives the best start to the day we can have, – putting on the whole armor of God! It is encapsulated in the poem “The Sword of the Spirit” When we wear the full armor of God we are aligning ourselves with the infinity of God.
We are required in The Manual of The Mother Church to be alert to our duty. This requirement can be expounded as: Alertness to Duty. SECT. 6. It shall be the duty (responsibility / obligation / task / function) of every member of this Church to defend himself daily (vehemently!) against aggressive mental suggestion, (impositions, ancient and modern necromancy, mesmerism and hypnotism).
In the absolute, we do not have to put on the armour of God, – it is already there. We just have to know it.
Knowing the infinity of God’s power, we are enveloped and shielded by the infinity of His Love: “Clad in the armour of Love, human hatred cannot reach you”. Anything unlike God is denounced. As LIGHT removes darkness, so the sword of the Spirit, the WORD of God, removes all claims of matter. This includes the story of Adam and Eve. The lie of the serpent was the hatred of Truth. It is no more.
