“PROBATION AFTER DEATH”
For Sunday, October 22, 2023

 Years back, when running my seminars, I would stress the importance of keeping focused on the goal and not the problem, for too often one can be so focused on the problem that one becomes stationary in thought and action.  Sin, disease, and death are the imaginary problems that would hold us back, while the kingdom of heaven is the goal, where we actually are! It is so important to live with the goal in constant sight. “Let the perfect model be present in your thoughts instead of its demoralized opposite” (Science & Health cit. S14 /407:22).

Running with this idea was the distinction between patience and impatience: patience is the confidence that you will achieve your goals, impatience is the doubt/fear that you may not. We have great comfort in the fact that when we take away the self, God shines through.

“But don’t think it’s down to you! For it is God at work within you, both to will and to do, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the ability and confidence to fulfill His purpose and good pleasure.” (Bible cit. B14/Philippians 2:13). LET GO, LET GOD.

James 1:4       So be patient, and let steadfastness and endurance, based on your knowledge that perfection is already present, work its way through all you do, and you will prove that everything good is always and ever yours, right now.

Isaiah 30:21     If you stray from the right path, either to the right or to the left, you will hear My Word behind you saying, “This is the right way. This is the only way to go. Follow it now!”

Isaiah 25:7       On that mountain the Lord will destroy the veil of sadness that covers all peoples and nations. He will destroy the gloom that is spread over everyone, removing forever the heavy shroud of death.

Isaiah 25:8       The Lord All-Powerful will destroy the power of death, it will be gone forever. He will wipe away all tears for evermore. No longer will his people be insulted and mocked everywhere. It will all be of the past. The Lord has spoken!

1 Thessalonians 5:21         Test everything, and so prove what you believe.  Hold firmly tight to what is good, and nothing else!

 Jesus said “..the kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:21). Death is irrelevant, as are sin and disease, because not of God. They cannot change or govern anything. “Beloved Christian Scientists, keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love, that sin, disease, and death cannot enter them. It is plain that nothing can be added to the mind already full.” (Miscellany p. 210:2–4).

God, good, is in control. When we hold tightly to this truth, the presence now of the kingdom of heaven within us, our probation is secured along the right track, and our progress is guaranteed! The article by Adam Dickey is really helpful: “GOD’S LAW OF ADJUSTMENT” . When we let go and let God, his words resonate: “There is no such thing as failure in the divine Mind. God is never defeated, and those who stand with Him will always receive the benefits of a victory over error.”

GOD IS NOT ON TRIAL AND IN REALITY NEITHER ARE WE.  “The great spiritual fact must be brought out that man is, not shall be, perfect and immortal” (cit. S18/428:22-23). Our probation is our patient progress, fulfilling the law of adjustment and the law of progress, in the Love that is God. “Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased”, (Mark1:11), at one in the glorious kingdom of heaven.
