Join us for the best summer yet!

Ken Cooper’s “POETIC POSTLUDE” shares poetry inspired by Bible citations, together with combined translations, that show GOD PRESERVES ”I PERFECT AM” NOT “I CHRONIC WAS”   See this week’s Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lesson on:

“GOD THE PRESERVER OF MAN.”
For Sunday, December 10th, 2023

The objective of preserving anything is to keep its qualities as fresh as originally made. The beauty of “I AM THAT I AM” is that that preservation is the continuity and perfection of NOW: EVER PERFECT.

THE INFINITY OF GOD MEANS THERE IS NOTHING TO PROTECT FROM, AND THIS GIVES THE PRESERVATION OF ALL THAT IS.

GOLDEN TEXT

Psalms 16:1              Keep me safe and preserve me, dear God, for in Thee alone do I put my trust and so find perfection.

RESPONSIVE READING.

Joshua 1:9                I have commanded you: be strong and courageous. Don’t ever be afraid or discouraged! For I the Lord your God am always with you every step of your way!

Psalms 121:1-2         I look up to the mountains and realise that is not where strength lies, – it comes from God, He who made them!

Psalms 121:5            God is always watching over you, always there at your right-hand (the side not carrying your shield, where you may feel exposed)

Psalms 121:6            The sun shall not hurt you by day nor the moon by night, for at all times and in all ways the very presence of God removes the fear of danger.

Psalms 121:7            The Lord guards you from all the evils of the world, preserving your entire being in His infinity of Love, Truth, and Life.

Psalms 121:8            He is constantly watching over you, looking after you, whatever you are doing, wherever you are, all the time, now and forever. You are never separated from His care.

  • Click “WHAT MATTERS NOW” a shared Christian Science Sentinel link that re-affirms that in the NOW of God’s creation we are necessarily preserved as God sees us, – and what God sees is the forever of perfect now!

“You are what God is seeing.
Not someday, but a present fact:
You are what God is knowing—now.
The truth of your real being!”

We can never be separated from what God, Love, Truth, Life, Mind, is thinking. What comfort, what joy that brings! It embraces us all.

  • Click “WHEN THE OIL FLOWS” a simple poem describing the anguish of a widow when faced with losing her sons to creditors, and finding through her consecration and obedience both the clearance of her debt and an abundant supply for their rest of their lives:

I LOOKED AROUND AT ALL THE POTS, EACH FILLED UP TO THE BRIM,

AND WENT AND TOLD THE MAN OF GOD, IN UTTER AWE OF HIM…..

MY CHILDREN LEARNED A LESSON TOO, THAT GOD KNOWS WHAT TO DO,       AND WHEN WE FULLY TRUST IN HIM WE CAST OFF HUMAN VIEW.”

The human view is necessarily one of limitation, and when changed to the spiritual view of reality we see infinite supply, the power of Love and the provision of Mind.

Elisha asked the widow “What hast thou in the house” – what is in your consciousness. She replied, “not anything…save a pot of oil”. Is this not often what we might reply, – just a single grain of mustard seed? Help thou mine unbelief! Yet this grain of seed was all that was / is required, and when they sought out further pots, they found them, sufficient for all their needs. This led to thinking of the following poem:

  • Click “SEED AND WHEAT, NO CHAFF”, a link to a Christian Science Sentinel shared poem, which makes the point that a single seed contains within it the full grown wheat

“Rejoice, O man: One grain of Truth is all you really need,
For it reveals the whole of Life—yes, from the one small seed.”

The one pot contained within it the supply of all the pots they needed.

“In God’s eternal kingdom, seed and wheat unite as one;
The Word of God breathes sweetly, reaches out just like the sun:
You are Mine, beloved daughter and beloved son!”

These last words convey the eternal beauty of GOD THE PRESERVER OF ALL. In “I AM THAT I AM”, THE ETERNAL NOW OF BEING,  IS ALL WE EVER NEED. YOU PRESERVE WHAT YOU LOVE.

  • Click “THE MOTHER OF EUTYCHUS” a moving and healing monologue, read by Sue. This gives a sound treatment for dealing with any emergency: “NO!”, followed by affirmation God is Life! Believe it! Know it! Feel the active presence of the Christ! Hold fast to the Truth!”

When Paul reaches the body of the boy, he knows of what he then speaks “Trouble not yourselves: for his life is in him.” HIS LIFE IS PRESERVED, AS WAS PAUL’S, AS IS EACH OF US. GOD KNOWS!

“Paul has proved his words: our lives are always safe.

My son is alive, and the glory of God is shining through us all!

We are alive with His Love!”

  • Click “PAUL PROVES OUR FREEDOM” a poem describing Paul’s journey to Rome, through shipwreck, bitten by a viper, and healing the father of the host of all those involved. His words had an impact:

“This God is Life, in Him we live.

His love to all He doth each give.

Just see yourselves as made by Him,

Shine with His light that can’t go dim!!”

Paul proved that what we may have done in the past can be expunged by what we do now, and, as with the woman caught in the act of adultery, our present actions, “sin no more”, give us the sure foundation for preserving what we truly are. When we “Live and move and have our being” in God the past is expunged. “I AM” overcomes “I WAS!” I AM BRINGS HEALING AND JOY.

  • Click “TRUST GOD” A simple poem that identifies that when we trust God , all good becomes our experience. The single seed contains the full wheat, and what God knows we fulfil. What a good reason to trust in God, and not ourselves!

“Come, trust God.

No case to plead.

Come, trust God:

He knows thy need.”

GOD IS BOTH THY SEED AND FULFILLMENT. Paul trusted God, from the seed of listening and obedience, to reaching out to the world. He blossomed for all of us, as too Elisha. What examples we have been given!

“This is your path, this your next step.

Trust God and you will see!”

As a single key opens its door, so Christian Science is the single key, the single pot of oil, that opens the Scriptures for each of us. One sentence holds the truth of the whole. Just think then what we do know! What God is knowing and preserving.

“For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.

For God is infinite, all-power, all Life, Truth, Love, over all, and ALL.”

THERE IS NO BETTER STATEMENT OF PRESERVATION.
