Ken Cooper’s “POETIC PRELUDE” brings to life
Bible EXAMPLES of the Science of Christ & its power to bless YOU & all mankind!
from the Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lesson on “Christian Science” for 12-26-2021
- In Ken’s Christian Science Journal poem, “Christian Science Practice” we see when we submit to “God’s Way”, what we practice is straight from God: “The infinite expression of true humility,
Not what I practice, but what You do as me.”
- Ken’s new YouTube poem, “Angels are Calling: Go On God’s Way” promises big blessings every day.
- Ken’s YouTube sharing, “Ye Are The Light of the World” (cit. B18) shows the impact of our shining.
[Ken writes:] “The Golden Text is a lively wake up call, and can be linked to our start every day in reading the lesson: “Come on, get up! Awake early and put your face in the morning sunshine (of Christian Science)! Feel the glory of God shining upon you with all its radiance and brilliance.” (Isaiah 60:1 combined translations). We can all feel this glory of the Lord because we reflect and express what God is, – glorious! And the infinity of God’s glory guarantees the perfect expression of all that God is. Paraphrasing Jesus’ words in the Sermon on the Mount “Be ye therefore glorious even as thy Father which is in heaven is glorious”. (See Matthew 5:48).
It is from this glory that angels appear, (as with the beautiful carol: “Angels from the realms of glory..”) and the Christmas story is made wonderful by their constant communication throughout. “ANGELS. God’s thoughts passing to man; spiritual intuitions, pure and perfect; the inspiration of goodness, purity, and immortality, ….” (SH p. 581:4). “Angels are God’s representatives. ……….By giving earnest heed to these spiritual guides they tarry with us, and we entertain “angels unawares.” ”(SH p. 299:11). We only hear these angels when we are quiet, – this is the beauty of prayer first thing in the morning before the rush of the day tries to set in. In stillness we commune with God, (for Joseph it was in the still of his dreams!). Angels inform, guard and guide. They are the Word of God made manifest to man.
Continuing with the Golden Text, how delightful to start each day with the purpose and expectation of reflecting God’s shining light. In the study of the lesson we are fed and clothed with all good. In the listening for God’s angel thoughts we open our hearts to the lesson speaking to us, not just reading words, but letting them speak to us directly.
My new poem is not just for Christmas, but for all time, every moment, as is the Christmas message itself. “Angels are Calling: Go On God’s Way” begins with stillness, – entering the closet of prayer. When we listen to God’s angels and go God’s way, the whole world is blest, for we fulfill what God has planned, to give us “an expected end” (Jer.29:11)
“They speak with God’s Word, they speak what is true,
And they send us with courage to “Go on God’s Way!”
This is the example set throughout the Bible, and the lesson this week is an encouragement to shine in doing God’s work in God’s way.
God’s way is always glorious. It shines with His light, and when we follow we also shine with His light and glory. This shining demonstrates Christian Science, for the laws of divine Life, Truth, and Love have always been present and are ever shining. Mary Baker Eddy discovered their presence and power. “In the year 1866, I discovered the Christ Science or divine laws of Life, Truth, and Love, and named my discovery Christian Science.” (citation S4).
True Science is unchanging, and as with any Science, without proof its science is meaningless. “Our Master taught no mere theory, doctrine, or belief. It was the divine Principle of all real being which he taught and practised.” (SH citation #16, my underline). Jesus “proved by his deeds that Christian Science destroys sickness, sin, and death.” (SH p26:25, my underline) Mary Baker Eddy proved the same. In my shared journal poem “Christian Science Practice” we see when we submit to “God’s Way”, what we practice is straight from God:
“The infinite expression of true humility,
Not what I practice, but what You do as me.”
In listening we hear the Word calling, and our Christianity shines through:
“Now let Christ-practice unfold as morning light,
In gratitude rejoicing in God’s eternal might.”
Our light shines as gratitude! Going on God’s Way is giving gratitude. The moment we see the dawn we know the full risen sun is coming, that we too will “radiate and glow in noontide glory.” (citation S26). It’s shining is unconditional. The coming of the Saviour was inevitable, the discovery of Christian Science was inevitable. A time for thanksgiving, and a time for shining!
“Ye Are The Light of the World” (cit. B18) shows the impact of our shining. No matter how small the light, it eradicates darkness, – the light can only see light. In shining we express what we are. It gives this conclusion:
I AM GOD’S CANDLE,
SHINING AND SINGING WITH HIS LIGHT.
PERFECTLY AT ONE.
The Christmas message is deep, – we are all born of God, and follow all that God is. Jesus, our Master and Example, said “I can of mine own self do nothing”, – what a message of humility and recognition of the all-power of God, – omniscience, omnipresence, omnipotence, – the All of Christian Science: Oneness.
God’s angels give this further message, – we are Gods way! From before time began to after time ends, man is what God does, and shines with His glory.
Have a timeless Happy Christmas!
