Joseph GEMs from a conversation with a time-travelling Joseph to a 2019 Workshop
of the 2019 International CSNN Conference held at CedarS Camps on:
Abridged Version of 2019 ICSNC Workshop with Warren and Barry Huff

A CONVERSATION with WARREN AS JOSEPH on how to heal flare-ups of inharmony:

  • Joseph’s story in Gen 37 and 39 relates to being treated unfairly.
  • No matter what bad things happen TO me, I declare they happen FOR
  • Refuse to be discouraged; instead, live to give and to bless those around you.
  • Definition of “Joseph … pure affection blessing its enemies” (SH 589:20/citation S8).
  • Turn an enemy into a friend using the “Daily Prayer” line to “rule out of ME [not out of the other person] all sin” (Church Manual 41).
  • Live up to Jesus’ love in “Gethsemane … love meeting no response but still remaining love” (SH 586:23).
  • Target some inharmony to ask God to rule out of you by pledging:
    • To be “free from pride”…
    • To be “quick to forgive” (SH 586:23) …
    • To be a peacemaker committed to “win without a fight.”

BONUS: Additional insights from Warren on keys to workplace harmony at CedarS:

  • Use regularly a harmony-producing gift—a Q-T.I.P.— as shared with the religiously-diverse, feuding tradesmen building Care House!
  • Quit Taking It Personally is a tip that will heal all turf-wars between those needing to pull together as team members.
  • Accentuating harmony in the workplace relates to “loving CedarS Care House into view” so as to be fully ready to serve this conference and group.
  • “The real Christian Scientist is constantly accentuating harmony in word and deed, mentally and orally…” (Miscellaneous Writings 206:19).
  • Big CedarS Cable Ski launch signs state: “God’s being is infinity, freedom, harmony, and boundless bliss” (SH 481). “Man is the expression of God’s being” (SH 470:23).
  • A regular tradition to close most evening camp activities is a “CedarS circle” where we hold hands and sing the CedarS song that includes the heartfelt directive to “think without strife.”
  • A daily closure for small groups is sharing gratitude & highlights.

Harmony in the Workplace: Biblical Resources

Abridged Version of 2019 ICSNC Workshop with Barry and Warren Huff

A conversation with Barry as Paul on harmony in the body of Christ:

How does Paul’s metaphor of the body of Christ and message of using gifts of the Spirit to build up the body of Christ relate to harmony in the workplace (1 Cor 12-13; 14:4; 10:23-24)?

What do the striking differences between Paul’s egalitarian use of the metaphor of the body of Christ in 1 Corinthians 12:2-27 and the hierarchical use of this metaphor by a later author in Ephesians 5:22-6:9 reveal about challenges to workplace harmony and how to overcome them?

Who are the metaphorical “Gentiles” in your communities, what is excluding them, and how can you follow Paul’s example of overcoming divisions to express more expansively our oneness in Christ (1 Cor 1:10-13; 3:9-12; 9:19-23; Gal 3:26-29; 2:11-12; 5:6; 6:12-15)?

What lessons can we learn about workplace harmony from the context of Paul’s message to
“Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus” (Phil 2:5 NRSV) in Phil 2:1-13?

Benediction ~ Rom 12:5, 10; Gal 6:2; 1 Cor 16:14
