“God the Only Cause and Creator”
for June 1-7, 2020

GEM#1: [W: Be grateful that God’s time is NOW to reverse the curse and pour-out blessings!]
Cobbey Crisler on Malachi 3:10, 11, 12 (Responsive Reading)
Malachi 3: Verse 10-11 The blessing that God promises in verse 10— to “pour out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it”— is God saying to the lie “it is enough”. The deluge is to show the infinite supply that is able to pour through you. [no blessing will be held back] The deluge is to show the infinite supply that is able to pour through you.

Verse 11 “And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, for he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts.” This promises that God’s time is now; our grateful acknowledgement of that is essential.

Verse 12 “And all nations shall call you blessed” (praise you—creative ideas); for ye shall be a delightsome land” (empty of fear, inertia).
Comments from B. Cobbey Crisler as recorded in the margin of Warren Huff’s Bible

GEM#2: Pledge to Bring Beatitude Blessings (Matt. 5:3-12, RR) to your life as Bible Characters did when God Answered Prayers for them. [Israel’s A.P. History on CedarS “Time Travelers Trail” with Warren Huff’s Beatitudes pledges & Larry Groce’s Beatitude song, written for CedarS]

(1) “Blessed are they who are free from pride. Theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” [Larry Groce]

  • At the start of CedarS “Time Travelers Trail” at Abraham’s step, is Jesus saying: “Before Abraham was I AM.” & his free from pride saying “I of mine own self do nothing.” (John 5:30)
  • A helpful acronym is “Q-T.I.P.” It stands for Quit Taking It Personally!
  • Abram==>Abraham obediently left his comfort zone to find his growth zone.
  • He gave his nephew LOT the first choice of land and offered radical Hospitality to strangers and so “entertained angels unawares.”

Repeat: “Like Abraham, Sarah and Hagar, I pledge… to be hospitable to angels…and free enough from pride … to instantly and confidently leave behind … my comfort zone and the merely material … when God directs me to do so.”

(2) “Blessed are they who hurt inside and comfort to them be given.” [Larry Groce]

  • In hiking the Patriarchs and Matriarchs timeline of the Bible, we review how: Abram and Sarai’s hopes for a child were disappointed and deferred for decades;
  • How Jacob grieved over the loss of his favorite son, Joseph;
  • How Joseph was hurt by being sold into slavery and unjustly imprisoned;
  • And how all the above characters were given the comfort: of a long-awaited child; of the reversal of a blundering dispatch about Joseph’s death; and, of freedom to serve and save humanity and to bloom wherever you are planted.

Repeat: “Like Jacob, when hurt inside… I will wrestle with angels… and refuse to let them go until they bless me… Like Joseph, when hurt inside… I will refuse to be discouraged… and will “live to give” and to bless those around me…and so I too will be blessed and comforted.”

(3, 4) “Blessed are the patient, the kind and the meek.
If you look for goodness* you’ll find what you seek.”
[Larry G] *hunger, thirst for righteousness

  • At the Exodus platform on CedarS 1/4-mile, Bible-timeline trail, pause to appreciate how Moses learned patience (40 years in Egypt, 40 in Exile, 40 in the wilderness)
  • In total meekness, Moses had to lean “on the sustaining infinite” to lead and feed the multitude as they journeyed for 40 years in the wilderness. (S&H vii:1)
  • Speaking of the Ten Commandments given to Moses (that are still guideposts today), Geith Plimmer, CS said: “The kindest word in the English language is NO.” [Warren Huff adds: “What could be a more kind, healing, mental climate than to love God and our fellow man so that we have: NO worries; NO thinking most things that aren’t up to being worship; NO obsessive graven images; NO habitually saying “OMG” (unless praying); NO forgetting about the present perfection of God’s creation (the Sabbath); NO disrespect for right authority; NO anger, put downs or killing; NO lust or adultery; NO stealing; NO saying or thinking what’s not true; NO jealousy. (Exodus 20)
  • “Moses was very meek, above all…”(Number 12:3) And Jesus said “I of mine own self do nothing.” (John 5:30) before healing and solving every problem known to mankind.

Repeat: “Like Moses, I pledge to be patient… even when my freedom or another’s seems a long time coming … I will “hunger and thirst” for right and for meekness … in all that I say and do … and so enter the Promised Land I seek.”

(5) “Blessed are they who are quick to forgive. They too, will be forgiven.” [Larry Groce]

  • At the United Monarchy platform on CedarS 1/4-mile, Bible-timeline trail, pause to appreciate how Abigail changed the course of history by quickly persuading David to forgive her rude husband, Nabal.
  • Learn how a sorry David was forgiven, even for adultery with beautiful Bathsheba, and for his premeditated murder of her Hittite husband, Uriah.

Repeat: “Like David, when I’m offended … by another’s rudeness and disrespect … I too will be forgiving … and I too will be forgiven my shortcomings.

(6) “Blessed are they who are pure in heart, Children who walk in the light.” [Larry Groce]

  • At the Babylonian Exile platform, we pause to appreciate how three Hebrew boys walked their talk! (Daniel 1-3) Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego (and Daniel) refused to defile themselves with the King’s food & drink (Dan 1:9) or to bow down to his graven image or music;
  • So, they (and the king) saw the Christ with them in the burning fiery furnace where only their bonds were burned and no smell of smoke was left on them. (Dan 3)

Repeat: “Like Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego…when I’m surrounded by pressure to bow down to matter… and to worship its idols…I will remain pure in heart… Like them when persecuted…I will be able to walk in the light of Christ…knowing that only my bonds will be burned … and that no ill effects or bad memories will follow.

(7) “Blessed are the peacemakers in this world, they win without a fight.” [Larry Groce]

With respect, creativity, firmness in the right, and confidence in Love, peacemakers win without a fight!

  • At the Babylonian Exile platform, we also pause to appreciate how “Understanding the control that Love holds over all, Daniel felt safe in the lions’ den and Paul proved the viper to be harmless.” (S&H 514)
  • We see Daniel’s calm trust in the lion’s den as shown in Briton Riviere prints

Repeat: “Like Daniel, when I’m surrounded by strife and seeming enemies … I pledge to win without a fight … by “understanding the control that Love holds over all” … and by ‘think(ing) without strife.’” (line from the CedarS song)

(8) “If you follow Christ and try to live his way, you’ll be persecuted (or challenged) like the prophets in their day. But rejoice, be glad, wipe your tears away, for yours is the kingdom of heaven.” [Larry Groce]

  • At a cave and a Cross in the Roman period, we pause to appreciate how Jesus modeled for us Mary Baker Eddy’s wall-hung motto to: “Do right & Fear Not!”
  • “even if it’s not popular thing to do” – CedarS Torchbearer Pledge
  • It’s our Turn in history to carry on the tradition of rejoicing “all the rugged way” because we know how it ends and that good always wins! (CS Hymnal 304)

Repeat: “Like Jesus in the Garden of “Gethsemane” … I pledge to do God’s will… to bravely face my foes and like him … to be an embodiment of “love meeting no response … but still remaining love.” (SH 586)

GEM#3:View Commandments as Spirit’s Specs for you by "Spirit, the great architect"
(S&H 68, citation S4)
by Warren Huff as inspired by this citation in studying for his architectural licensing exam

Architects use 10 categories or Specifications (Specs) to guarantee the quality and longevity of their work. Our Master Architect and sole "builder and maker," Spirit, God, has done the same for us as His temple—“Gods building” [SH 428:12, Heb. 10:11, I Cor.3:9 (B4)]. I hope you enjoy finding and applying the fun links between these 10 Specs, the 10 Commandments and the healings of your own body and others’.

The 10 God's-eye views of the spiritual you that follow—written by “*the finger of God”— bring health to the body by looking AWAY from it to God, instead of looking AT the body or TO it, as if it were in control. (*Deut. 9:10, Luke 11:20) In these powerful, 10-Commandments views of the real you, you can see how they work as your Divine Identity Protection Plan set up and upheld by "Spirit, the great architect." The 10 Commandments as The Great Architect’s SPECS for YOU as His building.

1st Architectural Specification (Spec): GENERAL CONDITIONS: Your highest selfhood shall (can) have "no other gods before me." (Ex. 20:3)
This spec sets forth the principles and laws that govern the whole project. The 1st Commandment was Mrs. Eddy's favorite text (S&H 340:16) and should guide every aspect of our lives. It has been paraphrased in an animated, podcast series on the 10 Commandments for The Mother Church Sunday School resources by our son Barry Huff as "Don't put something in God's place that's not up to the job."

Test yourself often on this 1st-Commandment idolatry indicator: "whatever you think about most is your god. Is it up to the job?" Self-absorbed sensuality, body worship, personal sense and belittling of self are some of the idolatrous, self-focused beliefs that are clearly not up to God's job.
So, stop belittling yourself and keep seeing yourself as happily at one with infinite Mind, God! GENERAL CONDITION AFFIRMATIONS: Declare to yourself often, and convincingly: "I am fearfully and wonderfully made (by God as His/Her "image and likeness" (Gen. 1:26, 27) to have everything I need) and I know it 'right' well."

2nd Architectural Spec: SELECTIVE REMOVALS: Your highest selfhood shall "not make unto thee any graven image." (Ex. 20:4)
SELECTIVE REMOVAL/DENIALS: This spec specifically delineates everything that must be removed for the project to progress. Daily remove obstacles to progress by denying the claim that any obsession, addiction, false dependency, inherent weakness or habit can be engraved in you or can in-grave you. "With God alone agree!" (CS Hymnal #5:2)

A 3rd-section removal guideline makes way for transformation: "Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." (Rom. 12:2, B9) Further removal instructions are to "divest thought of false trusts and material evidences" (S&H 428:8).

3rd Architectural Spec: CONCRETE: Your highest selfhood shall (can) "not take my name in vain." (Ex. 20:7)
This spec sets forth the quality control standards needed to end up with strong, cavity-free concrete as expected. Don't skimp on putting a full measure of substantial nuggets (aggregate) into you treatments and mix them thoroughly with divine insights and virtues (cement) that bind them together.

Don't give in to watering down your prayers with mere human solutions just to make them flow with popularity. Building with the rock-solid foundation of the Christ, your labor will never be IN VAIN. Whenever you take on your true God-like nature, you'll see wonderful, CONCRETE and practical results. Guard against the honeycombing of a weak, mixed outcome by giving yourself a "spiritual shakedown" before you speak or act. Declare and demonstrate that God made your mouth (Ex. 4:10-12) and designed it to be "filled with messages from" (CS Hymnal #324:2) him, not to yield to the unstable inconsistency (honeycomb cavities) of foul language, or of using His name in vain or in any way but in prayer & praise. "For our conversation is in heaven" (Phil. 3:20)

4th Architectural Spec: MASONRY: Your God-ordained selfhood shall "remember the sabbath day" (Ex. 20:8) of Genesis 1 completion when "God saw everything that he had made and behold it was very good." (Gen. 1:31) Barry Huff calls this "the only test we ever had to take" and reminds us that we have "already passed it with flying colors." (True for all exams!)

This spec sets forth the quality control standards needed to end up with the "faithful mortar" and quality brick or stonework expected. Building a successful life (or a brick or stone wall) seems like an accumulative process that works up to perfection. However, in showing us how to work out FROM our reflected perfection, "Christian Science presents unfoldment not accretion." (S&H 68:2)

5th Architectural Spec: METALS (incl. structural steel): Your God-ordained selfhood shall "honor thy father and thy mother." (Ex. 20:12) & everyone divinely placed in authority.
This spec sets forth the quality control standards needed to end up with the infallible steel superstructure and unblemished metalwork expected. Your life would sag and ultimately collapse without a proper appreciation for your parents and the other authority figures in your life. Jesus even acknowledged that Pilate's powerful position came solely from God and therefore was controlled by God. (See John 19:10-11)

Recognize that God has provided you with parents, guardians, camp staff, coaches, teachers, headmasters and law enforcement officers, all to help make things clear to you and to support and strengthen your building. Therefore "Let your love for one another be at full strength." I Peter 1:22 (Phillips translation) Here's Jesus' test of our Christianity: "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." John 13:35

6th Architectural Spec: WOODS & PLASTICS: Your highest selfhood shall (can) "not kill" (Ex. 20:13) or get angry, hateful or even verbally abusive. (Matt. 5:20-24)
This spec sets forth the quality control standards needed to end up with the sturdy wood framework and beautiful wood finish work desired. When bearing what Christ Jesus calls his easy yoke and light burden (Matt. 11:30) of being a stress-free reflection of God, there's no unbearable pressure or tension that can cause a spiritual idea to snap in anger and so kill another's joy or to splinter a precious friendship. In a world crying out for peaceful solutions, let's take every opportunity we can to be flexible, forgiving peace-makers instead of brittle "goat-getters" and war-mongerers.

7th Architectural Spec: THERMAL & MOISTURE PROTECTION: Your highest selfhood shall (can) "not commit adultery" (Ex. 20:14) and lust after bodily pleasures. (Matt. 5:27-28)
This spec sets forth the quality control standards needed to end up with the dry, cozy and efficiently climate-controlled home you expect and deserve.

You wouldn't dream of living in a house without a roof or without insulated, weather-tight components. So, never accept leaky-roof or no-roof thinking! And stop letting the winds of temptations blow right through you! Allow God's love to insulate and adultery-proof you like it did Jesus. See how he "threw the book" at temptations in Matt. 4:3-11 by using memorized, scriptural nuggets that he had made his own.

In his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus goes after the root of adultery when it is little, when it is just lustful temptations. (See and consider memorizing Matt. 5:27-29) Paul tells the Romans "to be carnally (bodily) minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace." (Memorize Rom. 8:6.) Knowing therefore that sensuality is really just a clever terrorist that comes disguised as good, as pleasurable, and as our own thought, makes it harder for this warring killer "to elude detection" (S&H 252:19).

In a rush to be adults, many teens so mentally download the alluring images of beautiful bodies that they "buy into" the adult-ery and the unexpected slavery of body-worship and allow the theft of their precious innocent identity. By being alert to this thief and murderer in our midst, we will not commit ADULT-ery by letting the belief leak in that we need anything material or adult-rated to make us happy and peacefully satisfied.

Insulate and seal yourself by repeating often with conviction: "In God I have everything I need and I know it." If the mission of Terror and error (Pharaoh and Herod) is to get rid of the childlikeness that is praised and practiced by Christ Jesus, let us give all our alertness and strength to protect and defend childlikeness in ourselves and others. (See Misc. 110:4!)

8th Architectural Spec: DOORS & WINDOWS: Your God-ordained selfhood shall "not steal" (Ex. 20:15) or "steal another's thunder," or their ideas, or their joy.
This spec sets forth the quality control standards needed to end up with the type, size and quality of windows and doors you expect. Since looters, thieves and hackers use windows and doors (in computers too) in order to gain illegal access, it's important to always "stand porter at the door of thought." (S&H 392:24) We can also refuse to see the world through a divisive, demeaning “window” of "the haves" versus "the have nots."

Mentally lock your door against the pride of supposed ownership of scarce resources. Mentally inoculate yourself hourly against "affluenza," the worldwide epidemic that is spread by a bazillion dollar ad campaign and is based on the false premise that acquiring or possessing things brings happiness. Temptation to steal should be healed by the revelation that happiness can only be found in giving, not in getting. (See "Happiness is . . . . . unselfish." Science and Health 57:18 and "I am able to impart truth, health and happiness and that is my rock of salvation and my reason for existing." My. 165:20) The U.S. rebuilding of its WWII “enemies” with the Marshall Plan and Elisha’s peace plan for Syria (II Kings 6:21-23) prove that giving works wonders in bringing about lasting peace. Refusal to live to get or to steal but rather to Live2Give –puts into practice CedarS annual theme to “Live Love Infinitely!

9th Architectural Spec: FINISHES: Your highest selfhood shall "not bear false witness." (Ex. 20:16)
This spec sets forth the quality control standards needed to end up with unblemished painted surfaces and floors and ceilings, all beautifully finished as you expect. You show yourself to be a refined and finished person by bearing only true witness and seeing only God's finished, perfect product, which is the way that Christ Jesus saw and healed. (See S&H 476:32)
This high standard not only frees us from gossip, destructive criticism and "white lies" told to impress others, but also alerts us to stop pre-judging others based on their race, religion and ethnic background.

10th Architectural Spec: SPECIALTIES: Your highest selfhood shall (can) "not covet" but is naturally grateful for the good demonstrated by others. (Ex. 20:17)
This spec sets forth the quality control standards needed to end-up with your home's unique elements (such as its kitchen and other appliances, modular storage & security systems, garage door opener, etc.) all as perfect and properly installed as you'd demand. It would appear that looters, rioters and terrorists are COVETING their neighbor's SPECIALTIES, their stores, lands, natural resources, prosperity… Little do they realize that their jealousy and violent acts are campaigning against their demonstration of all the good they wish to possess.

To counteract this mortal tendency of jealousy, let's demonstrate by example a civilized and most effective solution. When we see others possessing and demonstrating some good that we desire and have yet to fully express, let's not follow the terrorists by effectively being attorneys arguing against ourselves in the false belief that good is limited and we don't have it.

Instead, let's sincerely say "Thank You God, That's Mine Too!" (or "T.Y.G. –T.M.T.") This type of "T.M.T." is much more explosive than the T.N.T. of a car bomb or other such devise. "That's Mine Too" is a grateful declaration that as a divine idea, good has an unlimited source and is universally and unconditionally available. As we think in this way about our neighbors and their sovereignty, we too can "wish above all things that thy mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul (divine i.d) prospereth" (III John 1:2)]

GEM#4: Have fun letting your body and life sing-out about this transforming "sunlight of Truth"! (S13, 162:4): “Should we be silent? Ah, never.” (Hymn 283)

I can never keep from sharing my gratitude for the life-altering healing I had from applying this citation!

As part of CedarS Bonus Thanksgiving Lesson Met for 2009 I wrote: “After a joyous 2008 summer and fall of service, I found myself agonizing in the passenger seat during our evening move home from camp. I sang (along with the sound system) many hymns that I knew by heart—thanks to years of CedarS Hymn Sing experience—belting them out, at first through tears of intense pain, and later through tears of immense gratitude. [I love Hymn Sings!!]

For the first part of the trip the disabling discomfort just wouldn't let up—no matter how I changed my position or what hymns or citations I prayed. The pain seemed to radiate from a huge, internal growth that had been steadily growing for several months. It had attempted to rob me of my appetite and vigor as well as of all ability to lift one of my legs.

In deepest humility—and supported by the prayers of the dear driver, of my mom and of a practitioner who I kept calling—I continued to reach out to God and to sing each word with renewed understanding, conviction and vigor. With tears of joy I cherished the truths about my spiritual nature as if they were being tenderly told to me in order to save my life for God's service—and that they did!

All pain finally broke thanks to this all-out, fervent praying and singing—and I have hardly stopped smiling or singing since. I remain eternally grateful that I took "God-is-All" instead of Tylenol—that I chose whole-hearted reliance on Christianly scientific prayer to eliminate not only the pain, but also its cause rather that just opting to temporarily relieve suffering.

I knew when I got home without pain that I was healed, although the draining and dissolving of the growth took several more weeks of consistent "ray-delineation therapy" which "dissolves tumors" with the invigorating purity of "the sunlight of Truth" that "Christian Science brings to the body." (S&H 162:4, S13 in this week’s Christian Science Bible Lesson on "God the Only Cause and Creator") I applied each ray of this divine, healing sunlight – shining the specific, promising laws and wonderful ideas laid-out in the following precious paragraph.”

"Christian Science brings to the body the sunlight of Truth, which invigorates (refreshes, revitalizes, stimulates, enlivens, energizes, animates, rejuvenates, strengthens) and purifies (cleanses, disinfects, sanitizes, decontaminates, filters). Christian Science acts as an alterative (a medicinal plant that causes a gradual beneficial change in the body, usually through improved nutrition and elimination, without having any marked specific action OR A medicine or treatment which gradually induces a change, and restores healthy functions without sensible evacuations), neutralizing error with Truth. It changes the secretions (emissions, discharges, oozings), expels humors (4 Medieval ones to be balanced: blood, yellow bile, phlegm, black bile), dissolves tumors (growths, cancers, lumps, swellings), relaxes rigid muscles ("thought-forces"), restores carious bones to soundness. The effect of this Science is to stir (rouse, wake up, budge, shift, get up, revive) the human mind to a change of base (basis, foundation, origin, heart, starting point), on which it may yield to the harmony of the divine Mind." (S&H 162:4).

Have fun letting your body and life sing-out about this transforming "sunlight of Truth"!

GEM#5a: Feeling stretched lately? At Christ’s command prove that “whatever stretches you, blesses you!” (WH) “Follow (Christ’s commands) & rejoice all the rugged way!” (Hymn 304)
[Introduction to a Bible monologue on Mark 3:1-5 (Bible citation 8) from Ken Cooper:]

What God creates is complete and reflects HIs perfection, in His image and likeness. Yet how often do we accept and live with a belief of incompleteness, resigned to the apparent fact that nothing can be done. Jesus' Gospel message was for us to understand the love of God, giving us unlimited blessings in every direction, the fullness of what God is, and therefore what we are. With spiritual healing, there is no magic formula. It is simply the scientific proof that God Himself is known and made manifest by the constant activity of the Christ. The instant of healing is the presence of God, infinite good, clearly seen, the material overcome by the spiritual truth of being.

In this Bible monologue, a man's best friend stretched forth his hand in obedience to Jesus' command, and witnessed his true birthright made manifest. He proved what Jesus saw. So, we all can stretch forth our understanding and "Rejoice, and be exceeding glad" in God's manifold blessings.

The YouTube monologue is https://youtu.be/6CStngXPuWc, with pdfs versions attached to CedarS online version as upper right Downloads.

Insight from Jenn Wood1 year ago
When we read the accounts of healing in The Bible, it can be hard to feel the full import of the events as if we were there. This helps with that. What stood out to me was that everyone that met Jesus would naturally have felt something amazing and new coming from him. There would have been no denying that this man was powerful. That this man had a commanding presence. if we had met Jesus personally we would most certainly have felt some kind of expectation, felt that something different was happening, something of great import. This monologue will help me to remember to put myself in the Bible accounts of healing as if I was there. To feel the presence of the Christ healing in the now.

GEM#5b: Obey Christ’s commands and be whole!
Cobbey Crisler on the withered hand healing in Mark 3:1-5 (B8)
“In Mark 3, Verse 1, we have a renewed definition for church where another healing occurs in the church context, namely, ‘the man that had the withered hand.’… According to an earlier, largely lost gospel called the Gospel of Hebrews, we find this man saying to Jesus, “I was a mason seeking a livelihood with my hands. I pray thee, Jesus, to restore me my health that I may not beg meanly for my food.’ According to Luke 6:6, it was his right hand. As a mason, you could not really pursue your craft. If that is an authentic recollection, it just adds a little more enrichment to our comprehension of the story. Again, it’s the Sabbath and we find that prayer is a church activity. It would be hard to find someone that would disagree with that no matter what denomination one belongs to. Healing would have to take place, because prayer is no idle exercise without results. Healing follows prayer…
Verse 3. Jesus stops the order of service again. He says to the man with the withered hand, ‘Stand forth.’ Would that electrify most congregational worship today? ‘Stand forth.’ Everything stops. The priority is here.
Verse 4. Then he asks the question, ‘Is it lawful,’ is it a church rule, ‘to do good on the Sabbath days, or to do evil?’ Notice his definition of ‘doing-good’ here. He must not remain on the surface. Doing-good for Jesus would be what? Healing the man. Doing-evil would be what? Not healing the man. He regarded not-healing as evil. The normality of the spiritual function of healing is underscored here…
Verse 5. Then he says, ‘Stretch forth thine hand.’ Why didn’t he go and stretch it forth for him? Again, the consistency of having dominion. Dominion doesn’t exercise you, does it? You exercise it… ‘Stretch forth thine hand and it was restored whole.’” This stone mason no doubt could earn a living again using his hands.
“What Mark Recorded,” by B. Cobbey Crisler**

GEM#5c: Cobbey Crisler on Mark 3:1-5 (B8): dominion method works from “Heal the Sick”
“Chapter 3 of Mark, Verse 1, the man with the withered hand. It's on the sabbath day again. Jesus hadn't checked his calendar. Here it is in the middle of a service, the man with the withered hand. [Verse 2:] they’re watching Jesus, almost like they hope he will break the sabbath rule, so they could accuse him of something.

Notice how he takes this early church-service-to-be. [Verse 3:] “He says," right in the middle of the service, in the middle of the synagogue, "to the man with the withered hand, Stand forth."

So, he's going to make an issue out of it. Then, he turns to those around. Notice, again, this is not an immediate healing. He deals with the environment. [Verse 4:] “He says, is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil?" How about that being the basic law for what we do and where? If it's good, it's according to the law. If it's evil, it isn't, regardless of what man has legislated to the contrary. "They didn't answer him."

[Verse 5:] It says, "he looked round about on them with anger." Only Mark used those things with reference to Jesus. And "being grieved for the hardness of their hearts,” the blindness of what? Of ecclesiasticism. "He says to the man, Stretch forth thine hand." Did he go up to that man and say, [Speaker made sound of physically straightening out the man's hand]. Did he do it himself, "Let me help you," even though it was bent perpendicularly to his arm probably?

He says to that man to do what? "You do it." Notice what his support of that man's ability to do resulted in. Suppose Jesus had gone up and done that to him, performed a surgical operation, in a sense, on that man's arm? It would have been depending on person and not God. [Live recording voice: not clear] That's right. Look at the great impersonal freedom, plus the dignity of the man in participating in his own healing. Is it dominion if someone else does it for you? It's not your dominion. It's someone else's. Jesus told him to stretch forth his hand, the very thing he thought he couldn't do. He does, "restored whole as the other."

We're just sitting here as neophytes in the twentieth century reading the account of a method which worked. If we are laboratory scientists at all, or oriented in that direction in our century, which we certainly should be in our technological age, the least we should do is to be willing to study the method and see if it works.”
“’Heal the Sick’: A Scriptural Record,” by B. Cobbey Crisler**

GEM#6: “Get ready for “a complete change for the better!” Actionize Romans 12:2 (B9)

[FYI:] “In one of Mrs. Eddy’s Bibles, she wrote beside Romans 12:

“Romans 12 is Christian Science.” (MBE Accession #B00017.C)

Romans 12:2

“. . . be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

Conformed is syschematizo in Greek which means “to conform one’s self, one’s mind and character, to another’s pattern, to fashion one’s self according to (www.blueletterbible.org, Strong’s Lexicon 2964).

Transformed is metamorphoo in Greek which means “to change into another form, to transfigure, i.e. resplendent with a divine brightness, to the same image of consummate excellence that shines in Christ, reproduce the same image” (www.blueletterbible.org, Strong’s Lexicon 3339).

Acceptable – That which will be pleasing to God. or which he will approve. There is scarcely a more difficult text in the Bible than this, or one that is more full of meaning. It involves the main duty of religion to be separated from the world; and expresses the way in which that duty may be performed, and in which we may live so as to ascertain and do the will of God” (Barnes Commentary from www.biblehub.com).

JB Phillips’ translation – “Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mold.”
