CedarS Camps PSSTs (Possible Sunday School Topics)

prepared by Merrill Boudreaux, CS, pegasus6524@gmail.com

for the Christian Science Bible Lesson:

“Is the Universe, including Man, Evolved by Atomic Force?”

for December 15-21, 2014

P.S.S.T.  Golden Text (GT) – Who made you?  Who made mankind?  Who made every idea that exists in the universe?  Who made the universe?  Why?

   What does it mean to be created for God’s pleasure?  Perhaps all is created for God to give expression to God’s self.  God is pleased with you and all!

P.S.S.T.  Responsive Reading – Are you welcoming the Christ Child into your thoughts this holiday season?  What did the Christ Child ultimately bring?  Peace on earth, good will to man.

     Are you preparing to give gifts this holiday season?  Why?  For your own glory and praise, or for the glory of God?  How does your gift-giving glorify God?  Perhaps it is in the spirit of why and how the gift is given.  Do all for the glory of God.

P.S.S.T.  Section 1 – Notice all the good that is in your life right now; come and see.  Who made all that is good?  Is there anything outside of good?  Do you possess this good?  How will you use it; for yourself exclusively, or to bless all mankind?  Can there ever be any lessening of good?  Consider if you use good or any resources you have to bless someone you still have it, just in a changed form:  the smile of another, a heartfelt warmth, cherished memories that last a lifetime, gratitude.  Consider, the good you have and give to another does not originate with you; you are the channel for that good to go forth and bless.

P.S.S.T.  Section 2 – What are the works of God?  How do God’s works praise Him?  By giving expression to God’s existence; by being available for man’s use?  By proclaiming that God is; giving assurance that the Kingdom of God, the Kingdom of Good, is here and yours and for everyone.  Can you or anyone be outside of the Kingdom of God? (B6)  Think about how you praise God?  Perhaps it is by being the best expression, the best giver you can be.  What model of Good, as Good’s representative, will you be? (S12)

P.S.S.T.  Section 3 – What glad tiding did the angel bring in B10?  Whose birth is it that is proclaimed?  How was this a gift from God to Zacharias and Elisabeth?  How was this a gift to the Children of Israel?  How is this still a gift to you and me today?  What did John the Baptist declare?  Prepare ye the way of the Lord.  Are you receptive to God’s goodness in your life, now?

P.S.S.T.  Section 4 – What glad tiding did the angel bring in citation B12?  Whose birth is it that is proclaimed?  How was this a gift to Mary?  How was this a gift to the Children of Israel?  How is this still a gift to you and me today?  What does the Christ proclaim to us, now?  See Science & Health 583:10.  This God with us, the Presence with us.  This is a permanent present or gift to all mankind.  What would be the result if everyone accepted this gift of God in our lives, right now?  No hunger, no homelessness, no war, no poverty, abundance to share freely.  This declaration can begin with you.  Will you be a wakeful Shepherd?  See S&H vii:1-26.  Consider your role as giver to all mankind what you have received in advance of others.

P.S.S.T.  Section 5 – Are you an oracle? (B16)  An oracle can be declared as one who carries God’s message.  You can carry this message first in your heart.  Then you act on it by carrying goodness to all mankind.  Is there someone in your church or community to whom you can give a gift this holiday season?  A mom, who would appreciate a free babysitter?  A neighbor, for whom you can rake leaves or shovel snow for free?  Someone who would appreciate the gift of love with warm cookies or hot chocolate?

P.S.S.T.  Section 6 – God, Good, has purposed you.  To what end?  For what reason?  Perhaps to express the goodness and greatness as expressed in citation B19.  Spend a few quiet moments thinking about the gifts you received from this Bible Lesson.  Then pause, and press on to act first in your thought, then in your actions, that will surely bless through your gifts.  Read aloud together Hymn 136 from the Christian Science Hymnal.  Please note the title of this Hymn – “Heavenward.”

Hymn 136, poem by Violet Hay:

I love Thy way of freedom, Lord, To serve Thee is my choice,

In Thy clear light of Truth I rise And, listening for Thy voice,

I hear Thy promise old and new, That bids all fear to cease:

My presence still shall go with thee And I will give thee peace.

Though storm or discord cross my path Thy power is still my stay,

Though human will and woe would check My upward-soaring way;

All unafraid I wait, the while Thy angels bring release,

For still Thy presence is with me, And Thou dost give me peace.

I climb, with joy, the heights of mind, To soar o’er time and space;

I yet shall know as I am known And see Thee face to face.

Till time and space and fear are naught My quest shall never cease

Thy presence ever goes with me And Thou dost give me peace.
