Mind’s Infinite Manifestation for & as YOU! – a Lesson Sermon Met on Mind for Feb. 17-23, 2003 by Gary Duke, CS

Golden Text: “Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever…” (I Tim. 1:17) Einstein said, “I want to know what God is thinking. The rest is just details.” Wasn’t he acknowledging, “the only wise God” ~ one Wisdom from which we receive our wisdom and intelligence, which enables us to handle the details of life from an inspired basis? Jesus said, “The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do…” (John 5:19) Giving the honor and glory to God instead of self is the only way to go!

Resp. Rdg.: “…present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God…” (Rom. 12:1) How can we do this? Using the example of exercising, perhaps we could affirm we don’t exercise to be healthy but because we are healthy (by reflection) we exercise ~ are naturally active, just like children. And aren’t we all children?

Section 1: “The counsel of the Lord standeth for ever…” (Ps. 33:11) In a Bible workshop at CedarS, the instructor Barry Huff said, “The Ten Commandments were not labeled the Ten Suggestions!” To me that says the Commandments (and all “counsel of the Lord”) must be studied and obeyed if we want to be truly happy, because His law doesn’t change with the latest fad, it “standeth for ever.”

Section 2: “Evil is not supreme; good is not helpless; nor are the so-called laws of matter primary, and the law of Spirit secondary.” (S&H 207:10-13) Balaam, a holy man under the influence of Balak the king of Moab, could not be made to curse Israel, an enemy of Moab but blessed them! In the same way, can’t we also diffuse the fear of evil masked as enemy, disease or sin by elevating thought to spiritual truth about everyone and everything. Hymn # 64 suggests an effective means of translation, “From sense to Soul my pathway lies before me, from mist and shadow into Truth’s clear day…”

Section 3: “Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?” (Matt. 6:25) No thought? Perhaps Jesus was referring to obsessive thought, to the point where one’s food, body and clothes have become gods to which one is worshipping maybe without even realizing. What’s the remedy? “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matt. 6:33) Keep the focus on God and your daily needs are met.

Section 4: “To reduce inflammation, dissolve a tumor, or cure organic disease, I have found divine Truth more potent than all lower remedies. And why not, since Mind, God, is the source and condition of all existence?” (S&H 180:31-2) With Mind being the source and condition of all existence there is no room for error or involuntary action of any kind. When we understandingly acknowledge this, the projector of mortal mind is switched off and we’re left with regeneration and restoration.

Section 5: “And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.” (Luke 8:47) The Bible says this woman had an issue of blood 12 years before touching the border of Jesus’ garment and being healed. What truly happened? The Christ (see definition S&H 583:10) touched her which brought about instantaneous healing. Can’t we all exude that Christ spirit which cleanses thought wherever we go?

Section 6: “When the divine precepts are understood, they unfold the foundation of fellowship, in which one mind is not at war with another, but all have one Spirit, God, one intelligent source, in accordance with the Scriptural command: “Let this Mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” (S&H 276:4-9) What a promise! When we obey this 6th Tenet of Christian Science (S&H 497:24) we have fellowship and not enemies, peace and not war, and the revealing of one Spirit which brings about healing individually and collectively. We may want to take a look at all the tenets and memorize them; as we do so, we claim ownership of them and they in turn claim us for good!
