P.S.S.T. Golden Text (GT) – As I begin to prepare these PSSTs, I am feeling the world calling out for peace. To those hearts yearning for a humanity who genuinely care for each other and truly desire to express love for one another, I am reminded of these peace statements:

Hymn 521

Let there be peace on earth,
and let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on earth,
the peace that was meant to be. (Originally:
With God our creator, we are family. (With God as our Father, Brothers all are we
Let us walk with each other (Let me walk with my brother
in perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me;
let this be the moment now.
With every step I take,
let this be my solemn vow:
To take each moment and live each
moment in peace eternally!
Let there be peace on earth,
and let it begin with me.

(The Christian Science Hymnal, No. 521:1,2)

I am also thinking of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount when he preached (as recorded in Matthew 5:9):

“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”

The Golden Text admonishes us to look now to the harvest of peace – we don’t need to wait for a future world of peace, but “now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (II Corinthians 6:2).

P.S.S.T. Responsive Reading (RR) Why is this so? Why are we blessed of our Father? Malachi 3:10 tells us to “…prove me now… I will… open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”

Ask students to re-state this passage in their own words. Perhaps –

  • There is enough good for all to receive.
  • There is no monopoly on good.

Now, read all of the Beatitudes (Blessings) from the Responsive Reading.

Rejoice – find your peace and the peace for all the world.

P.S.S.T. Section 1 – As you look to Section 1, what are some key words that link us all?

  • I am the Lord, and there is none else
  • Ask me of things to come concerning my sons
  • The Lord possessed me in the beginning
  • Then I was by him, as one brought up with him
  • I was daily his delight
  • Fear not
  • Ye shall eat in plenty and be satisfied
  • I will pour out my spirit on you, your sons and daughters, servants, and upon the handmaids

P.S.S.T. Section 2 – What is your basis for prophesying peace when it appears there is none? Read about the dried bones that actually lived – in the Ezekiel scripture in this section (Citation B5).

See also Citation B6, “…the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought…”

You have Christian Science, which states the truth and aids in your prophesying even when things don’t appear harmonious. Read together Citation S13.

P.S.S.T. Section 3 – When is it “lawful” to do good, to preach and practice peace? Only when times are comfortable? How much more important is it to do so when it may be uncomfortable?

Is your “church” only for Sunday or Wednesday worship? Or does your “church” sustain you the rest of the week? Is your “church” a building only, or a congregation of like-minded individuals only? Does your “church” leave some out, or does it genuinely welcome all? See the definition of Church in Citation S16 (Science & Health (SH) 583:12).

Who needs you and your “church”? Citation S21.

Rejoice, fear not, be at peace.

P.S.S.T. Section 4 – How did Gamaliel in the scripture story in Acts 5 (B10) express “church”? What was the outcome? It is not always easy to stand up in the midst of opposition, but truth must come out; it cannot be hidden or be silenced.

Read aloud together Citations S26, S27, and S28. Read also together SH 367:3.

P.S.S.T. Section 5 – Citation B13 tells us the fields are ready for harvest; that is, peace is here. Lift up your eyes and your hearts, receive the showers of blessings. Let’s remember they are not yours exclusively. See SH 57:18:

“Happiness is spiritual, born of Truth and Love. It is unselfish; therefore, it cannot exist alone, but requires all mankind to share it.”

Be blessed by peace, and share it.
