Ken Cooper’s “POETIC POSTLUDE” shares poetry inspired by Bible citations, that show WHAT FILLS YOUR THOUGHT FILLS YOUR LIFE, as in this week’s Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lesson on:

“MORTALS AND IMMORTALS”
For Sunday, November 12, 2023

Where is our “mind set”? What are we thinking? What is “Mind-set”? – Everything!

We could also ask: where are we living? In the garden of Eden (mortality), Gethsemane (patience) or the kingdom of heaven? (immortality). What are we worshipping? Mortality or immortality? Where then is our mind set? It’s a fundamental question, – and the absolute answer is spiritual: there is only one Mind! Hence, we are the immortal expression and manifestation of that Mind.

GOLDEN TEXT

Romans 8:6       A mind focused on the flesh, ruled by our personal desires, is doomed to death, but a mind focused on the Spirit, the things of God, will find life full of good, and perfect peace.

RESPONSIVE READING.

Romans 7:24     I am so unhappy and miserable. Who can rescue me from this wretched life in the body of sin that only leads to death?

Romans 7:25     Oh how much I thank God, who through Jesus Christ our Lord has indeed saved me! In my mind I now devotedly serve the law of God, and steer clear of the flesh which only serves the law of sin.

Romans 8:2       The Spirit of life in Christ, like a strong wind, has magnificently cleared the air, blowing away the brutal tyranny of sin and death, – its so-called law no longer touches us! We have been freed, yes, liberated! We are all free now!

The poems this week show how the human picture becomes a stepping stone to the present understanding of the perfection of man, – never mortal, but always immortal, at one with God, a witness to His goodness. We need to Mind set!

  • Click “PERFECT PEACE” a poem that shows that in stillness we can feel the touch and promise of “I AM THAT I AM”. [“PERFECT LOVE IS MAN’S PERFECT PEACE. RIGHT NOW.”]  Enjoy the serenity of the pdf image, live in the promise of the rainbow.

  • Click “MARY OF BETHANY”, a moving monologue read by Sue, showing how Mary’s grief was overcome by the active presence and knowledge of Love. [My tears were no more, my inner peace complete. The four days of utter grief now vanished in the triumph of renewed life.] The gratitude of Jesus sharing his confidence and expectation, then and for all time, loosing the mortal picture for the divine. Loose the mortal for the immortal!

  • Click “WHAT AM I” a poem that contrasts the mortal with the immortal, [Giving nothing I become as nothing………Giving all I find all.] The choice is clear, – one leads to nothingness, – death, the other to the abundance of infinity! See Warren’s GEM of Absolute Faith

  • Click “GOD CREATED ME” a shared Christian Science Journal poem emphasising this basic truth: [Always beautiful as Love’s image and likeness. I hear God speaking: “I AM THAT I AM,”    ]  FOREVER MEANS NOW!

It all comes back to the simple question of where are we letting our thoughts rest and focus? What is our mind set? We can all still the storms in our thinking, remove the angst and grief that would entrap us, and find that the Adam dream is nothing, the storm is of no effect, our unity with the Christ as complete as it has always been.. But which are we worshipping?

It’s a question that runs through the Bible, –

Joshua 24:14    Then Joshua said “Now fear ye the Lord, and serve ye him with a perfect and a most true heart, with full commitment and true sincerity; and do away with the false gods whom your forefathers served in Mesopotamia, and in Egypt; and serve ye only the one Lord.

Joshua 24:15    But if serving the Lord seems unacceptable to you, not what you want to do, then you must choose for yourselves right now whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, since that’s where you’re now living.  But as for me and my whole family, we will WHOLEHEARTEDLY SERVE THE LORD.”

 Jesus was also clear:

John 5:19  “This is a timeless truth: the Son can’t do anything on his own, but only reflects and does what his Father is doing.”

Mortal or immortal? Live a lie or live/express the Truth? The Truth that YOU ARE IMMORTAL, PERFECT, NOW AND NOW AND NOW…, YES! GOD-SET!
