POSSIBLE SUNDAY SCHOOL TOPICS (PSSTs) for the GOLDEN TEXT
Why does Samuel compare God to a rock?
Why is this a good comparison for Truth?
POSSIBLE SUNDAY SCHOOL TOPICS (PSSTs) for the RESPONSIVE READING (RR):
How is God like a rock? Look throughout the RR and with your students and generate a list of the attributes of a rock.
How do Samuel and the Psalmist explain who/what God is using comparisons to a rock?
Why do Samuel and the Psalmist use the idea of a rock to inspire faith and trust God?
ACTIVITY: Ask your students to come up with their own analogy for God – have them generate a comparison that will help them and their peers better understand the true nature of God.
Ask them to share and explain their analogy – celebrate each of their comparisons and the insights that can come from each one.
Once everyone has had a chance to create and share a comparison, ask them to think about when this comparison can be useful to them – are there situations they may find themselves in that they will benefit from remembering and praying to know the true nature of God?
This whole activity can be adjusted slightly by asking students to consider analogies for the subject of this week’s lesson – Truth – reminding them that Truth is another name for God.
