[Ken writes:] “Contrast this: the origin of the universe, still rapidly expanding, as seen through man’s understanding of physical science, and the timeless infinity of the Kingdom of God as seen through the understanding of Divine Science. ONE IS PHYSICAL, ONE SPIRITUAL. One is untrue, one true. One good and bad, one very good. Which is correct?

I have been watching a programme entitled “Universe”, which is indebted to the findings of the Hubble Telescope. This telescope has recorded light from nearly 13.7 billion years ago, just after the Big Bang creation of the material universe, – which happened after a dark ocean of energy suddenly transformed. There are still a number of theories however, which do not account for the original cause. Looking through this telescope are scenes of outstanding and incredible beauty, showing the vastness and variety of the material universe. If this physical picture can offer such beauty, how much more beauty must there be in the infinity of God, Life, Truth, Love, Soul, Mind, Spirit, Principle? The programme presents itself as science, with the “physical evidence” making it “true”. But if you measure with matter, you can only report matter. And the material universe has this forecast, – it will eventually end, back to its origins.

Jesus said “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts (the material focus) of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” (John 8:44). THE MATERIAL UNIVERSE IS ABOUT EVOLUTION, creation and destruction, striving to become better. It is no part of spiritual man, always God’s own image and likeness.

The Golden Text stands in sharp contrast to materiality: “Known to God from eternity are all His works”. “I AM THAT I AM”  (shared Sentinel link) is the spiritual Truth, that RIGHT NOW THE SPIRITUAL UNIVERSE IS PERFECT AND COMPLETE. IT DOES NOT EVOLVE. IT IS AT ONE WITH GOD. Man has always been in the kingdom of heaven. There are no black holes here! No lack of understanding, no departure from absolute “very good”. What God knows is all there is, and it is all “very good”. He knows us as Life, Truth, Love, Soul, Mind, Spirit, Principle expressed. What can be more beautiful, more permanent?  “Come and see the works of God”, (Responsive Reading)- dispel the false and temporary vision of matter, behold true beauty in yourself and others!

Jesus was at one with God. He saw this beauty and perfection, he knew the seven synonyms were each perfection, and that gave him authority over every claim of matter and the physical universe. What freedom and dominion that gave! “Christ illustrates that blending with God, his divine Principle , which gives man dominion over all the earth” (SH citation#17). The poem “Jesus Overcomes Gravity and Time” is an illustration of the Bible narrative in Section 4. To physical science gravity is one of the four fundamental forces; in Science, the only force is God. The disciples witnessed Jesus walking on the water, and did not believe what they saw! They were afraid, but Jesus responded, “It is I , be not afraid” (Bible citation #7). Walking on the water, having the boat immediately at the shore, what would anyone think? The message of Jesus surely to trust in the spiritual, where all things are possible. The poem describes Peter’s thoughts of what Jesus had done, and its universal impact:

“Material laws cannot interpose between God and man. They must be nothing, for God’s laws are everywhere.
The awesome realisation that there can be no exceptions: no exceptions!”

This includes each one if us held by the laws of God, Spirit, Truth. Peter felt the timeless love of the Lord envelop him. We too can feel it envelop us.

The man by the pool (Bible citation #20) felt that Love. In the monologue “Not born blind, but born again” we see again how the perfect view of man held by Jesus was mirrored by the renewal of a blind man (material evolution) into one that could see! (Truth!) Is one miracle more difficult than another, – overcoming gravity or the laws of materia medica? One proof proves all. In SH citation # 13 we have “The miracle introduces no disorder, but unfolds the primal order, establishing the Science of God’s unchangeable law.” This was in effect what this dear man was beginning to realise, for Jesus had said: “Neither hath this man sinned nor his parents.” And he suddenly had this awakening of why Jesus had spat on the ground: “The Adam story of the dust of the ground! He had spat at that! I have to wash off the false belief of mortal heritage! I am the child of God! And it shall be made manifest! I felt born again”.

The monologue goes on to look at the full story of his discussion with the pharisees, and concludes with a fitting summary to everything above: “My life has fundamentally changed, from blind acceptance, literally, to light, to the glorious feeling of standing in God’s ever-present Love, being part of a marvellous creation that is all around me. Jesus opened my eyes! God is our perfect Father and there is only His perfect creation. That’s where I stand. I see!”

What are we seeing with? Physical eyes and material evolution , or “Spiritual discernment, – not material but mental” (SH 586:3), yes, the full power of the one infinite God, who knows everything as Truth, Life, Love, Mind, Soul, Mind, Principle, expressed in the immediacy and glory of now. Spiritual man sees what God sees. That’s all there is.
